I know this isn't really guitar related but it fits under the General Music Discussion. I really want to get one of these IPODs for when I leave home next year for college. I'm worried that my CD's will be stolen and if I got the IPOD I could always carry my entire CD collection around with me in my pocket. I heard though that the battery dies after a year or so, was that just the old models? Let me know if you guys think that they are worth the buy...Thanx

Yea you could have a cd or two stolen, or you could have your ipod and your entire collection owned. The battery does not die in a year, that was the early models, and the replacement battery is < 50 bucks.

Should be worried that your Ipod could be stolen :p

On the other hand, it is a nice storage medium, but to me is highly overpriced. Hewlett Packard is releasing their own branded Ipod soon which may be cheaper than the rest though. Also, you should know that Ipods do not play WMA files, and many of the mp3's on my computer are WMA.

ps
*Anyone know of a WMA to mp3 tool?

http://www.mp3do.com - Is alright for converting wma to mp3

When ripping your cds, use something like CDex rather than media player http://cdexos.sourceforge.net

Winamp 5 (http://www.winamp.com) has an excellent media library feature that you can use to sort music, and I find it works best with fully completed ID3 tags, which are specific to mp3s.

I have a 15GB iPod. It's my little baby! I swear by it! Have tons of music on it and I also backup my important files onto it. I've had mine about 8 months and have seen no battery issues. All MP3 players eventually have their battery*fail. That's just how batteries are. That's why you buy your iPod at Best Buy and get the $40 4-year warrenty...

If you have any other questions about it, just ask. BTW, the iPod-iTunes integration is REALLY good.
