Bloody hell, does the world need another Soilwork? :tickled: I guess he listened to lots of "Predators Portrait" in prison or something. :loco:

Truth be known, it's actually not bad per se, and a lot of it sounds like straight up "old school" heavy metal which is a good thing, but you know, if this wasn't the almighty Dissection, I wouldn't give this a second look in.

I'll give it a few more spins. I have a feeling this might grow on me somewhat just because at times there is beauty in simplicity. ['simplicity' being the key word by the way.]

I have it on order. I wasn't expecting this new release to sound like the old Dissection but when I watched the Starless Aeon video I was very suprised at how different they really sound. It wasn't a bad song but it sure didn't make a big impression on me.

Don't tell me you paid for this, dude. That song on the TER sampler is a-w-f-u-l

it amazes me that some people still listen to that crap because they used to be a good band... gg fanboys.

I've only heard few songs, but already preordered the album. I liked the few songs they have available on their website and I'm sure I'll like the whole album. This might be a different than the oldies, but who cares.

This forum might be a bit wrong place to really discuss this album, as the lyrical concept goes far beyond anyone here understands (including myself), but I really appriciate the dedication Jon has and the fact that he have returned. Not many could have done the same thing after being jailed for a long time, instead of starting to act like a junkie, he's returned with more power than ever before.

And no, I'm not a fanboy of Dissection or MLO, but I respect the policies of power and the 0-tolerance of weakminded people and drug-addicts.

Meh, pass me the doobie and some new Ihsahn.

People who commit murder are weak minded.

There are junkies who murders for a drug-money and there are people who murders junkies because they see them as lowlife scum etc etc. There are many ways to see things.

True, murder is both gay and lying.

I want to hear this, Dissection were one of my favorite bands when I first started getting into extreme stuff. The Mekalekahimekaheinyho song was pretty shit though.

I saw the video for Starless Aeon, wasnt impressed by the song or the video at all, very weak imo. I do give Jon credit for the enormous amount of dedication to himself and his music he must have in order to continue his work after all these years.

whoa that version of "Starless Aeon" on myspace is so completely dry and fucking... dull! listen to "Where Dead Angels Lie" right after that :zombie:

Gotta say, I've listened to this a bit more now and it definitely gets better with each listen.

Firstly, there is a lot of KREATOR in the sound -- I'm talking modern day Kreator (as in post Coma of Souls). Some of the vocal lines could have been delivered by Mille himself.

And then there are a few songs that hint at old Dissection. Songs like "Xeper-I-Set" and "God of Forbidden Light". Actually, the latter sounds like old IN FLAMES.

So yeah, think modern KREATOR meets colony-era IN FLAMES, sewn together with an old school vibe, and you're in the ball park.

Most people will be put off because it doesn't sound like Somberlain or Storm, but if you listen to it on its own merit, you might end up with a different perspective.

Give this a few spins and see what you make of it. There's actually a lot of subtle elements too that only begin to become apparent after a few spins. It's strange....it's like once you get past the basic thrashy riffs etc, the rest of the music seeps out at you.
