Anyone see The Passion of Christ?

I saw it and thought it was a masterpiece. It was great from a filmakers point of view and also spiritually.

Any thoughts.......??????

Cinematic excellence. Directoral brilliance. Scripturally & historically accurate. Spiritually intense and profound...

Too much to cover in a forum. I could write a Doctoral Thesis on the subject.

If anyone hasn't seen it, GO! :)

I haven't seen it yet, but really want to. I'm that akward position, where anyone that I know that wanted to see it has, and anyone that hasn't, doesn't want to at all. I'll probably end up seeing it on my own, or trying to get my brother-in-law (who is indifferent about it) to go and see it with me. The funny thing is that when he and I tried to see it b4, it was sould out. He knew that he would have been too tired to see a later showing, so we eneded up seeing Club Dred (which I'd say is at the opposite end of the spectrum, for the movies that were showing on the opening weekend)! LOL :loco:

Eh....the movie sounds much too graphic for my tastes. The idea of watching some guy get beat to death doesn't sound much like entertainment to me.

Is this still the Enchant forum??? WTF does this movie have to do with them. I'd understand Peter Gabriel or Neil Morse forums but here???

Music is very spritual. That is why you get goose bumps when hearing
your favorite song/part/vocal/riff...etc etc.

Music is art......Film is art.......art is art.

Its not a Jesus freak thing, just a question to fans of art....
...providing they are open minded and not stubborn.

Just my thoughts......

lol at Hen Act, don't forget the Saviour Machine message board ! but i'll have to agree with Disco Dave, i've seen the movie which i found very disturbing, this is how gibson wanted it to be, afterall sex and violence sells, the success of the film stems from the violence depicted scene after scene, i remember a friend of mine having said that the movie would have me coming out of the theater with tears and with a stronger relationship with God but all i got was an upset stomach, i'll instead stick to the innocent adventures of davy & goliath, i still highly encourage anyone to see it just make sure you go on an empty stomach...:Spin:

Well, at the risk of opening Pandora's box, (and yes, I'm sure I would have opened
it - like I could go through some sedate life with that box just sitting there - beckoning
to be opened...) I have to say that I don't think the success of this movie has much
to do with the violence and certainly not sex. It was the controversial nature of
the subject matter. It probably could have been a simple cartoon, but the fact that
it was addressing some foundational Christian beliefs and presenting them, full on, into
our great media machine has a lot of people who are believers, sympathetic, and even
those that are diametrically opposed to Christianity talking about it.

Perhaps it would have been better with a little less graphic violence. Somehow, it
seems that some of the overall lessons that are right there get overlooked. (Kind
of like who played in the Super Bowl? Who won? - but everyone knows which breast
it was that popped out...) It's almost a bit of a paradox, but it was the equivalent of
our conservative, closed minded, Christian leaders that arranged for his death. I left
the movie thinking about a lot of things. Most of them had little to do with the
violence - which I did find appalling - especially knowing that there really are humans
that carry out that sort of f*#@^d up behavior.

Hmmm, I guess that doesn't address Hen Act's question though. I'm not sure what
this all has to do with Enchant other than, like most groups of people I know, we've
had our own sets of discussions about it at a few rehearsals.

For JWC, I think the artsiest thing about the movie is that it held my attention even
though it 1) used sub-titles, 2) I knew the ending, and 3) was pretty much a one-
dimensional plot spanning a very brief period in history.

I knew my post was going to draw fire. I'm not anti-Religion, just didn't get the connection w/ this forum, that's all. In a way any subject COULD BE presented here but lets keep it light, man. Politics, abortion, and religion are a little heavy.

BTW, BillyJ, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time..."It held my attention even though I knew the ending." I'm not saying you're a little dense, but did the ending of TITANIC surprise you? (I hate when people give away endings but...the boat goes down and Christ does die!)

Just kidding, man...

I absolutely agree. I'm pretty sure if we were to ask Jesus Christ what movie he'd like to see based on his life, he wouldn't want a movie focusing on the worst aspects of humanity.

Well, I just can't let this go, it seems. I would rather avoid the heavy stuff
myself. But then again, some of the subject matter in song lyrics can be
pretty heavy too. Take "What To Say" for instance - knowing what and
who that is about makes it pretty heavy for me.

OTOH, glad you got some mirth out of the post - though I thought the point
I was trying to make is that when knowing the ending, there are two paths
you can go by - still interested or walking out in boredom?

In any case, it's all a karmic thing. I am contributing to the perpetuation
of this thread, just like others are perpetuating the growth of reality TV.

Stick with this thread. The perpetuation of Reality TV is the single worst movement in society today. Sort of like a bowel movement.

And I totally agree, the lyrics in What to Say are about as heavy as heavy gets (obese?). But that's a good heavy, not a bad heavy.

I saw the movie and was blown away by it. The violence was extream but so was the crucifixion. There is no way to sugar coat it. It was showing the incredible sacrafice done for mankind, not just violence for the sake of shock value. I thought it was a beautifully shot film, Gibson is a very talented director. But also as a Christian, I felt as though I were watching the real events of that horrible but necessary day. Its was an artistic interpretation for certain, but also true to the Gospell at the same time. I still can't get this film out of my mind, it had a real impact on me. I'm not a fundamentalist Christian (there is nothing wrong with that though) and never will be. I'm just a simple Catholic and not pre Vatican 2 like Mel Gibson. But this film did bring me a little closer to God, and for that I'm grateful to Mel Gibson for taking such a chance. This film deserves all the success it has achieved so far. If you are on the fense about seeing this movie, get off of it and go! We can't talk about such heavy topics on a message board? Why not? I'm so sick of the attitude that we can never talk politics or religion with anyone. These are things that matter. They can be discussed in a mature manner without causing WW3, it just takes a little effort to show respect for opposing views.
