Alllllllllllllright boys and girls and crazies of all ages. Your favorite uncle has been on a bit of a metal depression as of late, and to help me bring myself back to the realms of distortion and mass chaos at high volume, I decided that it might be kind of fun to do a new weekly Appreciation Thread! I'll pull a different metal classic from my memory bank each week and see what you all think about it! Good, bad, or ugly lemme know whatcha think and don't hesitate to start your own appreciation thread too! I just thought this might be kinda fun. So here goes:

S.O.D.- SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really really really loved this album as a kid. I think I must've been about 14 or 15 when I got it. I actually had it before Headbanger's Ball was on the air...an older kid up the street traded me the album for a pack of matches! Killer deal! haha Anyways, I remember it being heavier than even Metallica at the time, faster and more aggressive! And the lyrics and song titles made it a "dangerous" album to have! For some reason, it was always fun to own and album or two that you hoped your mother never found when cleaning your room! This was one of those albums for me.

I was also a chubby skateboard kid, and I thought Billy Milano was the shit. I actually bought Anthrax's Among the Living AFTER this album because I thought that Scott and Charlie were primarily SOD members doing a side project! Crazy!

SO what about y'all??? WHat do you think of this classic metal release???? Good? Bad? Ugly? Or not even metal???

Ted

I remember when this was released and everybody at the Dynamo went crazy about it! Including me of course. Anthrax already was pretty big in the Netherlands before SOD appeared.

SOD inspired me to start my own SOD-like band Handykept. We ended up as support act of Agent Steel in 1986.

Here is a picture of our performance in the Metal club Scum in Katwijk:

The white stuff you see on everyone is flower! This is at the ending of the song "food fight". During that songs I threw bags of flower, eggs and dog food into the crowd. It was fun!!

So yea SOD was killer and we loved it!! :p

PS the one with the bathing cap giving the horns to the crowd is yours truly :headbang:

Haha, well you know, same story here...SOD had a big impact here too. And just as Hawk we started a band called Sulfeet ( Dutch for Sulfite , chemical term SO3, very close to SOD name) We had the time of our lives, playing almost only SOD covers. In my opinion SOD had the best crossover hardcore/metal record ever, nothing ever came close.

I have asked my friend Flip so many times...I think he lost the tapes :-( There's one chance I have, the guitar player had the "master" tape but I haven't seen this guy in 15 years or so, will be a hell of a search ...

The first SOD album is as great as much the second is not...
Speak English or Die is really packed with energy and some funny lyrics (anybody remember Pussy Whipped? :tickled:). Kickass stuff!

I know quite a few people who are completly Pussy Whiped :tickled:

TED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just left me speechless, I would had bet you were the last (well and Trixxi) who would like S.O.D.

S.O.D is for me the finest hardcore band ever, great music, witty lyrics and a bug-off attitude that rocks.

And Sargent D will own your butt!

SO3 as as anion is the sulfite, but SO3 molecular is the sulphur trioxide one of the causes of acid rain and a very toxic gas. Also used industrially to make detergents, among other uses.

Talk about a classic album!! They don't come much better than the first SOD release. That album was on my turntable forever, spinning and spinning. I remember that at about the same time it came out the first Kiddie Porn tape came out (members of Wrathchild America). They were alot like SOD, not so much sounding like them but just in the over the tip rudeness. With songs like "Number One Turd In The Shit Parade", "Aborted Fetus", "Kill A Prep" and "Gift Of Hate" they were a riot!! Listening to those 2 albums made for some fun times!!

Hahaaa, Wyvern the chemical specialist...Well, I didn't invent the name, was our guitarist who was supposed to be very clever and educated....NOT !!!! :D So we have ran around 2 years with a wrong name, trying to be something that we're not !!!

 Yeah I was also thinking about the Mentors while making that post. Lets not forget GG Allen also. I never liked his stuff but he was a scumbag like the others.

Wyvern, oh yeah, there are a lot of those albums in my closet! I'm not all Van Halen, just 99%! hehe Here are a few more bands I was into that may blow your mind:

The Dayglow Abortions
The Accused
Cro Mags
Venom
St. Vitus
Exodus
Suicidal Tendencies

Those were probably my favorites at the time SPEAK ENGLISH came out

GREENO, what about the Hookers?!?!? They're from KY!

I've not heard much of them. A friend has some of their stuff but I've only heard 1 or 2 songs. He likes them though.
