Between 1:38 and 1:47 there are some creeking noises, which somehow I didn't notice before. Anyone else get that?

yeah mike/peter (whichever one is playing the riff) is just doing a slide, like schism said it makes the strings squeek

To my ears, those sounds sound nothing like the sounds made from sliding on a fretboard. Sounds more electronic to me; like a keyboard or something. I have no idea what it is either.

i think the reason it sounds so strange is just because they got effects on the guitar, so the sliding sounds really weird.

Am I the only who doesn't think it's a guitar "squeak?" I don't know, I might be wrong, but that weird little series of sounds right at the end of that riff sounds nothing like a guitar...to my ears at least...or my ears are just hearing shit haha.

Alright...I guess I'm not hearing things then haha...and agreed on the growls.

It doesn't sound to me like it's anything "designed"...sounds like slide squeak. It's pretty subtle though...kind of hard to tell.

yes it is an excellant song, it feels like its allll around you

and also im also quite certain that this is string sliding now....i just emulated the exact same effect on my own guitar.

although i guess that doesnt necessarly mean opeth did the same thing haha
