He thinks it means "Work makes meat," but he is probably incorrect.

basically it is the literal meaning, but he was implying hmm...like "let's do some grind..." :rolleyes: :grin: (if JW wrote the lyrics, wouldn't know :grin: )
 
The german concentration camps had signs that said Arbeit macht frei (Labour makes you free). Arbeit macht fleisch must be a weird re-writing of that.

m-hmm... here it was used for another purpose, therefore rearranged.
 
on the other hand, looking from another perspective (thank you, At The Gates, for reminding us), the meaning is the same. "Arbeit macht frei"= "Arbeit macht Fleisch". frei and Fleisch turned out to be the same thing: death.
