What's up with this hating of Borknagar?
I like Borknagar! I just don't like them as much as Ulver or Arcturus. I give Solefald the edge just because In Harmonia Universali is probably their best album yet, and Epic (yes I've heard it) is not an improvement on anything that Borknagar have done previously.

JayK, In Harmonica whatever is the only SOlefald I haven't heard. After the craptastic Pills... I gave up on them. I liked Neonism for what it was, a different take on black metal, but I never did listen to the band.

Borknagar on the other hand, their first two are being played more often lately. They really are good releases, and without a doubt some of Garm's best work.

Dude - I didn't buy the fucker when it came out. NAD ripped me a CD-R, and I was really impressed. Now I should buy my own copy. When I do, you can have my CD-R if you like.

I have nothing against Borknagar, but I have to agree that Lazare is doing his better work in Solefald lately. Their latest album does draw a bit from the more accessible sound on Pills, but is much more involving musically and recaptures the adventurous nature of their first two.

Borknagar needs to go back and create the Viking-ish black metal from the early days. Empricism was too close to proggy black metal for my tastes. And yeah, I'm not too crazy about Lazare's work in Borkie.

Epic goes in this vein , J. , the "proggy" stuff ala Empiricism .
Solefald is good if not great , all their albums are good . I've never liked Borknagar , found Quintessence too Dimmu Borgirish (really) , never listened to the others , maybe I should :loco: .
