In my humble opinion, they are probably the most original metal band alongside Opeth. All their albums are excellent, as is the musicianship and songwriting...

I think their latest offering is fantastic. Side show symphonys! i agree arcturus are very original
Great band love the incredible theatrical keys 
. SS was bit of a let down but its starting to grow on me...
In my opinion The Sham Mirrors is their best album. and the last song that album 'For to End Yet Again' is one of my fav songs ever! just unbelivabley cool and epic.

Yes, Arcturus is one of my favorites... a brilliant band.

Like old katatonia sorta. Lots of clean acoustic guitars, quite slow. Good, but i can only listen to the albums in full rather than song by song. Dont know why..It just sounds wrong to me .

The next album, The Mantle, is probably the one you've heard about. Like the cover of the album, the music's environment is just very cold and dark overall, you just have to hear it. I consider The Mantle a masterpiece. If you like Opeth, especially songs like To Bid You Farewell, For Absent Friends, and Harvest you will most definitely like Agalloch.
