ARCTURUS

In order:
1. La Masquarade Infernale
2. The Sham Mirrors
3. Aspera Hiems Symphonia
4. Disguised Masters
5. Sideshow Symphonies
6. Constellation

I guess not everyone has Disguised Masters, but the album is really worth it, if only for the "gangsta rap" (sorta) version of The Master of Disguise. I was rather disappointed with Sideshow Symphonies. Anyone new to the band should check out La Masquarade Infernale and The Sham Mirrors. Everyone does a great job playing on both albums, especially Hellhammer.

sing along with your friends: :)

"Await the coming storm. Behold the sign in the sun.
Chaos upon us spawn! The arrows of time pinpoints us all.
Oh, well the maddening laughter growing louder with the memories.
Atoms like incense rising, like a thousand candles all blown out
at once.
Fear tangled with despair. This ghastly symphony of malice breaks it.
The spirit sails out on waters. An intergalactic sea of sorrow.
Solemn oblivion with thee.

Ways of darkness.
The third eye reflects the images of vast reluctant pasts.
Ethereal eternity awaits the final act.
It crawls toward the altar destinied to collaps.
Tragic legend, eerie stratum.

Twisted, this mortal flesh evoked again, with echoes still haunting;
The curses chanting.
Embrace the outcast state of chaos. After all its unalterable.
Beweep this thought, then arise with wisdom,
Nowhen I hallow in the gateway of different plains.
Open your heart and let go. Oh Vanish. Divine infinity.

Ah, this wraith I am. So many aeons ago since.
Ah I suffer eternally. The inevitable did unfold.
Oh well, a collection of particles held together
by the force of a soul and its memory.
Be warned (you stand) on the edge of infinity;
Where coloured waves will lead the way into the void.
Fear tangled with despair. This ghastly symphony of malice.
Oh well the maddening laughter growing louder with memories now.
Atoms like incense thing.

Ways of darkness.
The third eye reflects the images of vast reluctant pasts.
Ethereal eternity awaits the final act.
You are drawn towards the altar destined to collaps.
Tragic legend, eerie stratum.

In between the arrows of time I suffer eternally."

In my opinion The Sham Mirrors is their best album. and the last song that album 'For to End Yet Again' is one of my fav songs ever! just unbelivabley cool and epic.

thirded..or something..anyway I agree with you,
"For to End Yet Again" is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

I've been meaning to pick up some Arcturus for the longest time based on all of your rave reviews - what type of metal is it? Comparisons?

*Bought some Akercocke today and listening to it now - this is damn good!

Avant-garde. Their early stuff is like atmospheric BM. Hard to describe...just pick them up and have a listen!

Which Akercocke did you get? I ordered the CD/DVD of Wrods that go unspoken like a month ago still hasn't come in i'm well annoyed.

That's what I bought - DVD and all though I still need to watch it. I'm on vacation in Canada right now and I don't have access to a DVD player until tomorrow. Awesome death vocals, but I'll need to warm up some to the clean singing. Very good overall though :)

Buy Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernal

The style of the band is quite hard to classify; in fact all those hybrid bands are quite hard to tag. With influences coming from all the Metal spectrums, from Black to Progressive Metal, ARCTURUS really created here one of the most challenging Metal album ever written. Using blast beats, samplers, electronics and really dramatic keyboards, they open you the door of all men’s madness. This is really the feeling that I get each time I listen to this CD; it’s like having a sound description of someone’s own insanity, like in the movie “The Cell”, although this time around musically.

The talented musicians that did this record are overwhelming. How on earth is it possible to write such piece of music, it is beyond me? One thing that amazes me so much in this CD is the drumming. It is completely out of this world. Often Black and Death Metal drumming can become really repetitive, but in “La Masquerade Infernale”, we are far away from repetitiveness. And what I like also with this album is the overall feeling that each song flows into the other, like if it was just a one and single song. I really enjoy this, since for this is the real example of Progressiveness, not using the typical verse-verse-chorus-verse-verse template.

“La Masquerade Infernale” is a demanding album from one of the most original band to ever compose Metal music. And it feels great inside to know that you are one of the fans of this music; knowing that you are a part of something different, music to challenge the mind, instead of music to alienate yourself, like mainstream radio pop crap. Some says “Images And Words” or “Operation Mindcrime” are true classics; let me just say that ARCTURUS music deserves not less than being called a masterpiece.
