I love the band. I think 'La Masquarade Infernale' is their best by some distance. I think it's a much more visionary record than their others. Indeed, more than most other metal albums. It's let down slightly by Garm's slightly lacklustre vocals, but the musical and melodic invention is superb.
I place 'The Sham Mirrors' second. It's the record that got me into them, and it has a cool vibe to it. Garm's vox are much improved, and the keys are blinding.
Both the other full-lengths are very good, but not on a par. The new one is, dare I say it, a little uninspired?
Oh, and this might sound retarded, but to me, 'La Masquarade Infernale' has always sounded like it's the score of a musical set in space. And therefore 'The Sham Mirrors' is a perfect follow-up, because it sounds like it was actually recorded in space.
