Well it's been a while since I've done one of my fairly pointless yet mind bending threads. So here's a new one to help keep things active around here.

Do you think a band can be to progressive metal?
What I mean is you look at any of these so called progressive metal bands and I feel a lot in this day and age go overly complex at times and the melody gets lost in it all. There also seems to be an uprising of Dream Theater and Symphony X clones out there if you ask me.

So what are your thoughts?

I agree tottally. It's sad to me to see so many bands that only focus on their look or how complicated parts they can play. I honestly feel prog metal is defined by melody's and powerful lyrics. But when all someone does is noodle all over their guitars than it loses that.
