Emily, how about this for a suggestion:
Put "JACE" in white block letters with a low, subtle opacity, vertically from the bottom up on ONLY the black parts of the silhouette. So, parts of all the letters would be missing, but you'd still be able to read the word and it's subtle enough to not make it too busy.

Emily, see, I think that sometimes "less is more" I like the fact that the hair is so minimalistic it makes the eye wonder.
I would probably add a sans-serif text in the same orange at the bottom, leaving good amount of margins all around the hair-shape.
It will make it stand out more and will be obscure and abstruct.

I think I used recycled lowfire white clay and underglazes with both. It's been about a year since I finished those, so I forgetted.
I've been updating my galleries like crazy, especially the ones on myspace, heh. (deviant art has been having too many DL issues).
