Article about the studio I work at!

Unfortunately I don't own the SSL pack from Waves haha, I only have Duende, what we could do it, if someone had a file and processed it with the ssl strip from waves and sent a screenshot I could mimmick the exact same settings and print it.

Also, yeah, the xrack is awesome, we have it because the aws 900+ only has 2 dynamic strips that you can assign any channel to it, so we use the xrack for more dynamic strips, which is what I find is the weak side of the console, you literally have to get an xrack if you want more dynamic strips because you're limited to 2. But the console itself is stellar.

Only 2 channels per desk?? I thought it was 24channels with eq and dynamics?? The SSL x-rack is quite appealing with the total recall thing, wished more manufacturers would jump on that train.

Ah thats cool man :) Maybe you can use the "free" version of the Waves SSL pack *cough *cough :D

Nah man! That's how they got he console so small, having a dynamics on every channel strip would force the console to be much bigger. The desk is really really small, which is nice, very compact and sleek but that dynamics thing is the only downside.

hm... I don't know... I honestly don't like the idea of getting the "freeware" version, even if it's just for a shoot-out, I remember once upon a time a go when I did had the "freeware" version that the installations were all weird and fucked.. I don't want that shit in there :p

Ah ok. It seems to be a really nice desk, especially with the new update. Seems to be perfect solution hybrid today.

How would you say that the hardware eq reacts contra ITB plugins? It is easy to buy the GS bullshit about hardware being so much superior to ITB. Compression is so much better hardware style but eq??

Yep GS is full of BS'ers. To be completely honest with you, the eq on the console for example, isn't something that you turn the knobs and go "WOW OHMIGOD HOW COULD I HAVE MIXED BEFORE WITHOUT THIS", which is what people in GS make you believe, it sounds good and has a really nice character, it feels less harsh but I feel it can be achieved ITB, the thing that I find most important though is that it feels somewhow that everything falls together much quicker and "smoother" than ITB, it seems that ITB you have to twist this and that shit and blabla and on the console it's a couple of twists and moving the faders and everything starts sitting nicely and beautifully. That could be because of the fact that anything hardware is very tactile so you waste less time hovering a mouse from place to place.

In terms of EQ the only "big" difference that I found was boosting the low-end with some really really old pultecs, which we have, now that is something anyone should experience!

Yeah that is what i thought. I can buy the hardware vs ITB compression because there the hardware wins bigtime there, but i guess that it is just like you say that with EQ it wont be magical with hardware. But if hardware helps the highs which can get quite ugly on heavy guitars atleast with my experience mixing ITB, then it just might be worth it. Or i may switch to mixing in cubase, Ermin raves all about Nebula so i might fgive that a shoot :)

I already spoke with my local dealer and if business is good to me this year i'll be trying some hardware eq this fall :)

And that Pultec stuff seems to be gold. Im thinking of expanding my masterbuss with a clone. But then again I have to A/B listen and make up my own mind :)

Good luck with your job and keep us updated :)

I use a lot of Nebula as well and Ermz has all the reason to back it up so frequently as he does.

Funny you talk about the highs on hardware which is exactly the thing, when you boost highs on guitars ITB it sounds literally like cockroaches raping your ears right? On the SSL it does seem to add a nice "sizzle", so to speak, it's still that bit of "fizz" but it's a good one.

Oh yea, if you get the chance try it! If you can get some pultec or pultec clones or even some APIs, the midrange on those are fantastic!

Thanks man, good luck to you as well and lots of success :)

Glad you can confirm that. I don't think it matter if you cut frequencys, but when you boost i belive there can be big difference with hardware. And with the SSL stereo module being quite affordable it seems to be one option. API stuff always scarred me with that 2db +- step haha, but i guess you can learn to handle it if you keep that in mind while tracking
