I know... I can be a little harsh sometimes... its just sad you Know?
small towns used to be all about the "family owned" places, and now all small towns seem to have one thing in common... McDies, Walmart, and Starbucks..
thats so fucking sad.

The other day, I had to pick my dad up from the airport, but I was way too early, so I was looking around for something to do to kill some time without spending any money. The closet thing around was the Wall*Mart.

So I slowly drove up. The place was huge, and there were people everywhere, walking around the parking lot, pushing their gigantic carts filled with bullshit, they're fat bodies waddling back and forth like the tides coming in on an ocean of fat. I knew this was gonna be bad.

I parked and walked in. Now, I'm not a racist man, mind you, but the people shopping in the Wall*Mart were largely black, or minorities, but even more importantly, stupid. The sad fact of their new American black culture is based completely on materialism and bullshit, and this Wall*Mart was basically ground zero for the people that have no intention of working or doing anything productive with themselves, yet still want to own "stuff". Walking around this place, I knew that no one needs 95% of the bullshit that this place sells, yet they sell it so cheap that people buy it anyway.

Wall*Mart has gone beyond just being a store. Its a social hotspot, a meeting place for the dregs, a dance club for consumers, a make out room of materialism. It's low price titiliation, a complete whoring out of capitalism, and the reason why people are so shallow, empty, and lead such pitiful unfufilled lives (unless of course you believe in Jebus!).

I was depressed walking around there, by myself in my hat and sunglasses to remain a passive observer, but I learned a lot. I dont surround myself in my life with these kinds of people, but when you see how many there are, and how much bullshit they buy, you realize that they are America, in every state, in every Wall*Mart. They're breeding people who need to own bullshit to feel like they belong, because its all there and it smells great, and they can almost reach it.... and cant possibly live without it. What's sad is that there are people dumb enough to believe it.

America is beautiful... if you can get away from the bullshit long enough to notice.

Hey you forgot to italicize your last two bullshit's.

MacDies= why half the people in this country are morbidly obese. No wonder McDonalds is the biggest franchise in the world.

Walmart= People don't realize that they are being ripped off big time. The whole concept of the store is that Sam Walton, who also founded Sam's Club, figured out a way to cut down on some of the shipping costs by having his own warehouses. Basically, he makes everything a dollar cheaper, everyone gets all excited about it and he (well the family and shareholders now) ends up making way more in cutting down on distribution costs. Don;t forget that people think that just because they save a dollar, then they have to spend 50 more than they would have spent somewhere else because they think that they (four words that start with a 't' haha) can now afford that useless item now. The only ones smiling like those smiley faces have you believe are the CEOs, while idiots buy some colorful TV cover for 20 bucks and think it is a steal. I guess that is why Walmart is THE biggest retailer in the country, maybe even the world.

Starbucks= I actually like their stuff. The coffee is really good and I love those Tazo teas. They are so tangy.

I was wondering where my bed disappeared to

er :erk:

I totally would have repped Brooks for his post. Strangely enough, I live in a city right next to LA where independent shops flourish. Wal Mart draws big crowds, big bucks and big sponsors, so it's no wonder why the small towns love them. Why have 5 or 6 independent shops when you can have a corporate franchise replace all 5 of them?

VERY true about Walmart. they lure you in with a 1$ cut and make you spend 60 more on junk. I HATE IT.
Thank god that Walmart never made it outside of the states, but the Dollar store has... (god, biggest junk in the planet in one place!)

Now about Starbucks...........................
Don't even get me started. Starbucks is the biggest tragedy of this country IMO.
First: THEY BURN THEIR COFFEE. yes boys and girls: coffee beans that are black and shiny are either BURNT or stale.
Coofee beans should always be dark brown and never shiny. When you drink coffee that has been burnt, and or/ was made stale, you drink only 50% of the caffein in it. Its aroma-less. BLAH!!!!
I hate the entire concept of this place... jazzy/ lounge music that make people think they're inclusive, and every fucking starbicks is designed the SAME>........THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Art that won't clash with any opinion.... Can you say BORING?
Starbucks took over all those cool unique espresso bars..... all those little places that each and every one looked different... each and everyone has a unique atmosphere to it... who wants one place that looks the same goddamit????
Their entire products made from cheap-O crap. their frappuchinos are all made from pre-made industrial shit.
YUK!
The sad thing is.. thats the only place people can get their coffee soemtimes.... how sad.
So sad that 'America' is drinking burnt cheap coffee and think its "oh so good and I can't start my morning without it"

Think about it... there's a reason why Starbucks never made it big in countries like Italy, Israel, Spain, France Greece... where coffee is a huge part of their culture...
They got bankrupped.....!!!
(France has one Starbucks left though, in Paris, its on the Champs Elysees Boulevard guess where? where all the tourists are...)

I'm done venting.

^ not all... there are some excellent things here...
but I see your point.

All the "trendy" crap is watered down and blend...
Tale all those restaurants TGI Fridays/ AppleBees/ Ruby Tuesday..
they are all taste the same.

You know, America has EXCELLENT micro breweries!! Some beers here are as good as the belgian ones! I'm serious!

Yeah, I heard of the micro breweries, that they're quite good. I believe many of them were started by Belgians who emigrated (can't blame 'em). When I'm ever in America, I'll need someone to introduce me to some American beers, Karen, as well as providing me with hot sex :D

i shop at walmart. its cheap. i don't go and buy shitloads of stuff. i go there for what i need. its cheaper there. granted, i don't like the idea of the Super WalMarts they are making. but whatever. if they're making money off of it, more power to em. I don't see what's so threatening and bad about a department store.

Walmart has invaded Canada, and as far as I can remember the dollar stores have polluted our home and native land.

I hate dollar stores. At nine, my mom would make the routine sojourn to the dollar store. Fed up, I refused to tolerate the decor and its bludgeoning of my olfactory senses.

Why the fuck does a dollar store smell? And how the fuck can it be UNIFORM?

"Tale all those restaurants TGI Fridays/ AppleBees/ Ruby Tuesday..
they are all taste the same. " - actually i there are differences, TGI friday's usually has bad service, ruby tuesdays have shitty salad, applebees usually overcook their food, but have good deserts and salad, and chilis cook their food well have great nachos, and have decent salads, but crappy deserts.

anyone know that jim gafigan skit where he talks about appetizers, meal, deserts? its like 3 meals in one, no wonder the whole country is fat! personally i save my mom and get a meal and a salad. if i am with other people i'll split an appetizer (nachos usually and only at chilis). of all the chain restaurants chilis is the best, and it sure beats the local chains.

wal*mart and starbucks and the like all take over the local independant shops. not by buying them out, but by selling their stuff drastically cheaper that it draws attention. so say the major labels got smart and all their CDs were 5 bux each and came with some free posters and provided they had music you wanted to hear (cause they do) you'd probably go out and spend your money on a bunch of major label bands than stick by the independants. smaller labels would go out of business cause they couldn't afford their overhead costs. majors continue to exist raise prices and your stuck with them weather you like it or not. so essentially they come into town and make some drastic sale that is 50% off the competition and keep it going til after its all dead.

now there are some chains that aren't as evil. best buy is an example. by me we have like 2 within 5 miles of each other: one in a big mall, one a few miles up another highway. there was an empty lot they eventually took it. their problem is that they expand too quickly so they end up in competition with themselves. i bring this up cause starbucks does the same thing. it will hopefully lead to their death.

What is threatening is that most smaller businesses cannot afford to compete.
It starts off where something is manufactured. Like let's say a pair of Nikes for instance. It is manufactured in some sweatshop in Asia.
From there, a wholesale buyer buys out what they make there and adds stuff like shoe laces and stuff like that.
Another wholesaler buys it from him to sell locally and export it to different countries.
Another wholesaler buys it when it reaches the country it goes to.
He sells it to the...
...wholesaler that sells it to the retailer.

In that whole process, the price is jacked up big time. A pair of shoes, that costed less than a dollar to make and would sell for about 10 bucks in the country it was made in, goes through this whole process. By the time it reaches the retailer, it costs about 100 bucks for us to buy it. Wal Mart cuts off most of the wholesalers since they warehouse everything themselves. They distribute it to their stores. They sell the item for a few dollars less. They make so much more by the fact that they warehouse and distribute everything themselves. They tell people that not only can you buy your shoes here, you can also buy your pet food, shower gel, cologne, auto parts, gardening supplies etc. all at this megastore. The little guy cannot compete. More people lose their businesses because of this than Walmart hires.
It also takes money out of the community. The CEOs and owners of the Walmarts that shut down every other store probably do not live in the communities that those stores are in. It also takes out that town charm when some metropolis of a store completely overshadows the little guys that are probably our friends or neighbors.
I was in Norwalk one time getting my passport renewed. There were all these little establishments all over the place. The neighborhood pizza shop, not like those Pizza Huts but a place that looked like a small corner bistro in Italy, the neighborhood taverns and pubs, the little clothing store, the little pharmacies that can all stay in business because people go there out of loyalty to the owners. You cannot put a price on that.
Walmart destroys all of that.

I never see any non-chain stores around where I am. There is a Kmart, which I go to when I need to get cat food or shower gel, but that is all I buy from there. Kmart is pretty much like Walmart but not quite as big.

Try living on your own and finding stuff.
Walmart becomes the king of the sidewalk.

And who wants to go to ten little stores, instead of one giant one?

Walmart can be helpful... but it is annoying as fuck going there.

D00d, why do you always come here, and repeat everything everyone has already said, OR quote parts and "corrects" them to the point where small details are irrelivant?
Just a patern I've noticed about you.
