Atavism

I find I have the urge to listen to it less than all the previous albums. My problem with it is it's right on the verge of being huge and epic, but what kills that feeling for me is near the end of the album, theres a few just incredible songs, but they're short, and the way they flow together it gives it a feel of "A medley of epic classics!" .. and because of this leaves me wishing for more, way more.

They needed to flesh out some of the songs a bit more, the potential for utter unruliness was definitely there.

hmm... I think I burned myself out on it a bit, but this album's great! for a while I thought it was by far their worst (never mind the s/t, which I've only heard once or twice), but for me their albums go about like this:

1. Traveller
2. Twilight of the Idols
3. Atavism
4. Deadmen

1 and 2 switch sometimes, but that's about all.

Hmmmm......... I don't have Twilight??? Better than Deadmen huh? I only have Traveller & Deadmen, and prefer Traveller.

Actually i think Twilight takes the #1 'cause I've heard it most and Brave Connor Mac owns anything from Traveller, pretty much!

What's the prevailing opinion on this CD? I kind of dig the style, both musically and lyrically, but the songs just bore me.

You should spend more time with Traveller. It's probably their most accessible too.

I like Atavism, but I agree with most of the rankings here in that I'd put it next to Deadmen. EDIT: Which means it rules, but not as good as some of the others. Note that Slough Feg don't actually have a bad album per se.

Debut kills everything else, except maybe Traveller which is just polished to near-perfection.
