been having a look at recent setlists. not bad at all but i would really like to see masters apprentices in their. ive seen opeth once before in london last september, a great gig but again no masters.
oh well, i suppose its always more exciting not to know the setlist before the gig.
the greece and tel aviv gigs seem like good setlists so who knows? they chop and change the list as they go

Have you got a link to a recent setlist?

Anyway, it's like I mentioned in another thread - as long as they play Ghost of Perdition, they can play rap songs and I'll be happy.

Well, not quite, but you get the drift.

Its something like

Ghost of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
Closure
Baying of the Hounds
Under the Weeping Moon
The Drapery Falls

encore Deliverance or Demon or Both if you're Lucky.

That's almost the Israeli setlist...same order too
except for the missing "grand conjuration" before "drapery falls"

Masters apprentices... the end riff is all that excites me.

I really hope they nail the acoustic segments. And damn how i'd love to hear the improvised version of Closure. And The Amen Corner.

I've recommended to the band the following beers:

Tui
Export Gold
Mac's Gold
......insert your beer here

im with ya on the Macs Gold, found out about that years ago in a pub with my brother and dad, such a smooth and tasty beer, and the drunkeness wasnt nasty and vomit-filled

yea out of those ones, the only good one I reckon is Macs Gold.. really clean drunk and not much of a hangover. I normally drink Coronas or heiniken though...

Haha, I didn't like mac's gold until I had it out of a keg.:kickass:

But to the concert.... 24 days to go...

Hopefully this opens up a new market for metal in New Zealand, to have the best over here. Surely a sold out show will help other bands follow Opeth's lead. How awesome would The Devin Townsend band and Dark Tranquility have been?! Oh by the way homies, Synchestra is pure gold. Devin Townsend is a genius right up alongside Mike Akerfeldt.

I've never heard Synchestra or anything from Devin Townsend, from what people on the forum are saying, they hold him in high regard. Might have to check them out... recommendations?

Is there still no word on who the support band is yet?

Download a song by strapping young lad (Devons band) called "aftermath" and I gurantee you will be a Devon townsend fan after that!:headbang:

yea I hope so, the only decent bands that have came here in the last 5 years have been Tool & Pantera. I really wish more good quality bands would come here. I've been trying to get as many people to go to this gig as possible. (and annoying the shit out of some people in the process ) I have got a couple of people going who wouldn't have originally:headbang:

I notice after the Auckland gig, opeth have no dates for about a month. Does that mean they might be staying around NZ for a while and checking it out?? hmmm I wonder.....

The support act is Subtract.

Not long now :headbang:

Mind you, there's a metal festival planned for the 06/06/06. Apparently the promoter for this festival is kicking off their opening with this concert.

Won't make it to this festival though (Tuesday isn't the best day for an all day festival - and being outdoors in June doesn't sound like it would bode well) but Illdisposed are playing 2 other shows outside of the festival here.
Plus, the news of a new promoter that is aiming to bring more metal to NZ excites me greatly.

yea Subtract are pretty average. Not really an ideal choice for opening an opeth concert but then again who is in NZ really?

Where did you hear about a new promoter bringing more metal to NZ?
Tell me more!!!:kickass:
