Audiogalaxy sued.

Yeps. I actually wonder how this was not done earlier... I haven't used it, but I have got the picture that it's basicly a second napster where the whole point is to download copyrighted stuff for free...

Wow, really surprised it's taken this long to happen. I went to Audiogalaxy a while back, just to check it out (I don't use it), I saw their stuff saying 'it's illegal to use this for copyrighted material' etc..., I thought yeah right, that aint gonna save you.

I don't understand why they sued Audiogalaxy...
all the coyrighted files (of famous signed bands) were unallowed to download.
For instance if you search for Tool songs, you can see all the files are blocked...
That's kinda sad. What if you're an un-famous signed band? Hell, the famous ones don't need the money they might be losing out on(which is what the legal argument will be based around).

It was inevitable, but why? Whats the point? The code for Napster was open-source, so there will be a new version quick enough.

Also, last I checked, they're not loosing money through this. I don't have whole stats and the like, but I've spent quite a bit of money I wouldn't have elsewise without Audiogalaxy, Morpheus and others...

...Which pretty much sums up the whole argument. Problem is, neither side can prove conclusively who is right. I've seen many people on UM say they download and then buy, but I have doubts that that attitude is in the majority, which means there is harm being done. On the other hand, there are many bands that have benefitted from people downloading some songs. So both sides can say it is good/bad, who really knows. I guess the judge will tell us what is right...... ;)

I would like to think that it would wake up the record labels a bit, y'know, make a few more things available to sample. Some bands do it well (for instance, Katatonia have an MP3.com page with about 15 full songs from all their albums), some bands do it badly (Veil of Sorrow have a 1:30 sample from one of their songs and that is it). I wonder how much time the labels that complain about it have spent thinking of solutions like this (other than the 'pay-to-download' bollocks that obviously won't work)......

I WANT my songs to be available on audiogalaxy so people can listen and we get better exposure.

If the powers that be wanted to stop their stuff being downloaded from audiogalaxy all they had to do was fucking ask. They blocked the major titles.

audiogalaxy is the only way to access many bands since death, black, doom etc. cd's are hard to come by in many countries...i just hope that they ban all the pop music and leave metal alone...no metal bands are complaining about downloading mp3's and many bands support it.

Fuck, i hope audiogalaxy doesn't get closed down

I dont mind while another thing comes out trying to be the next napster. But if your average dumfuck joe finds out about irc and irc networks become popular THEN i will be pissed if say undernet or dalnet or efnet facing lawsuits.

I just went (1:00PM EST) and it was running. Who knows, maybe it'll take a while like Napster and slowly it'll be gone. I actually assumed that AG was doing something different than Napster and that's why they were up and running.

Well, that sort of blows. I do sample most music from there. Only other place I check usually is MP3.com and they don't have a lot. Well, if there was Napster... then AG, I'm sure they'll be another.

If these things keep getting successfully sued, it would take a very stupid person/company to start up something else. AG probably isn't going to be the only thing sued as they're not the only such company out there right now...

Kazaa is still going, but AG works a lot better for (Metal) audio...

I only use these P2P programs to get rare stuff, like Japanese bonus songs etc., and sometimes to check bands out that I've read about, but if I like that band I go buy the CD.
