Audiophile Crap

man this speaker search is making me pull my hair out. not that I went anywhere to audition any yet ... also, not that there are places to go to do that anymore ...

I also noticed that every speaker now is pretty much made in China at this under $500 price point and some even higher priced ones ... what the fuck is going on with that. that was never the case before with 99% of brands.

that Q Acoustics above, got a $329 shipped price from a UK Stockist ... not bad I think.

the little-known fact is you can just buy any half-decent pair of speakers and be happy

this "reading on the internet a lot to make an informed decision" shtick is good at first but turns into stupid bullshit after a certain point

buy some freaking speakers, listen to some music, shut up about it

i have wharfedale speakers of the first generation they actually made in china, and the common consensus was by doing that (paying attention to components and design, but using cheap-ass labor) they increased the quality of their shit by about 560000%. wharfedale used to be good in the 80's, then a bad joke throughout most of the 90's and early 00's, and by getting their shit together and moving production to china, they went from making shoddy english crap to actual good speakers again.

this is the way the world's rollin' now. it doesn't make any sense to make low- or mid-end stuff in western countries now that china can generally be relied on to know what the hell they're doing

yeah, i remember Wharfedale's in the mid 90's as I used to sell them. They were crap with a capital R!

i was shocked to hear how highly regarded they are now for budget hi-fi goodness.

i'll get some speakers soon and look for something else to bitch about.

on another note, can anyone point me in the direction of speaker floor stands suitable for bookshelf speakers that are 1) inexpensive and 2) not uglier than all hell

I am aware of the Diamond line ... the 9.1 is very highly regarded.
This dealer on ebay has a few brand new pairs for a very good price (i actually contacted him to see if he has another finish besides black)

you would think that there are a lot of Hi-Fi shops in NYC but there are not ... the ones that are still alive sell pretty hi-end gear so they don't have my $ stuff.

the others are the big box stores that sell the typical brands like Sony, etc.

meanwhile I am going to buy this ironic tee:

thanks homie ... i know about them but typically these type of shops don't have the lower end stuff hooked up.
I will try to check out the first shop as it's only 20 minutes from me and see if things changed.

what metal cd should i take to audition speakers? ... need something with a good low end and a pretty intricate mix ...
