Audiophile Crap

Next on my agenda:

I've been doing a ton of research on headphones recently. I bought both the Sennheiser HD25s and V-Moda LPs, with the intention of sending back one of them. The Sennheisers sounded nice, but were ugly as sin and made my head feel like it was in a vice. The V-Modas sounded like something was missing, no matter how much I toyed with the EQ. I sent both back. I then stepped it up a bit and bought the V-Moda M100s and Sennheiser Momentums. Apparently the M100s were designed with a great deal of feedback from the HeadFi forum. The Momentums sound too sterile and overly crisp for my liking. The V-Moda's are perfect for me. I love the signature and they are incredibly well made. The pads were a little small for me. I just ordered the XL pads. Should be here tomorrow. From everything I've read about them, the XL pads not only make the cans way more comfortable, but improve the sound stage. Can't wait to test them out.

Zod, enjoy them shits and never look back or read a damn thing about this garbage ever-a-fucking-gain.

But yeah, with that said, within the next 6 months I will be upgrading to the Rudistor NX-03 and Fostex TH-900. I'll keep the Yulong D100 MKII for the DAC for now.

loling

Those V-Moda LPs are supposed to be garbage. The M100s are very highly regarded. If they had proper availability here I probably would have picked them up instead of my Sennheiser 598s, but I'm happy anyway.

The power adapter for my Fiio E9 amp died so I bought another one with same specs, waiting for it to arrive. Was like $7. Trying to avoid getting anything new, but if it ends up being the amp (doubtful) I'll "upgrade" to a Schitt Magni/Modi combo. THEN DONE AGAIN FOREVER

Yeah... I can see why. The more you read, the more there is to read, and all that happens is you end up feeling bad about the equipment you own.

Wow.

I confused the good reviews I read for the M100s with the LPs. When I tried using the LPs, no matter how much I toyed with the EQ settings, they just sounded bad. The first time I plugged in the M100s (without even touching the EQ) they sounded fantastic. In seems that in the $300 price range the M100s are a solid, if not strong value.

Yeah, the M100 is truly in another league. You'll love them for years to come.

Seriously. Not even remotely interesting in changing anything. I'd swap the B&W 603s for something smaller if I needed the room or was moving the setup somewhere smaller, but that has nothing to do with the madness that is "pursuing sound perfection" :D.

I'M FREE AND I'M LOVIN' IT!

I'm thinking about giving my Sennheiser CX 300 II to the wife and getting some B&W in ears.
Or should I just get some different upgraded Sennheisers? The only time I really use phones these days are when exercising. What's a good choice in that regard?

I don't know anything about the quality of B&W IEMs myself. If you are using them when exercising (running?), it's probably better to just get something cheap.

I use these for running:

Bought two pairs at a local computer shop when they were on clearance. I believe they actually use the same driver as the Portapros which have been recommended on here before - they sound surprisingly good for what they are.

Cool, thanks dudes
I have no issue with exercising (running, biking, lifting) with good phones
I like to upgrade whenever I get a chance. I don't buy things very often so I wouldn't otherwise get a new pair of phones for years to come

I thought you were against lifting iron ores?

My concern was mostly sweat potentially damaging a good pair of headphones/IEMS :D.

Adapter actually arrived today. Works. GLORIOUS SUCCESS.

No personal experience with it. It was a strong consideration for me until I decided I would get the Schiit Magi/Modi combo, were I not able to get my Fiio E9 back up and running. Fortunately I could.

I ended up going with JDS Labs O2+ODAC. I looked at the Schiit Magi/Modi combo, but it seemed that the only place it consistently got better grades was for was the wiring in the back. I haven't been able to find a single review that was anything but glowing about the O2+ODAC. And the comment I read most often, that in a double-blind it would likely compete with hardware between 2 and 6 times its price. For my needs (having a nice desktop setup to pair with my V-Moda M100s), it seems like it will do the job quite nicely.
