Audiophile Crap

Hey dudes I can finally join this club, as just yesterday my haunted Onkyo receiver once again shit itself, as it is wont to do. The main difference being that this time I was in a particularly bad mood, so I punched it until it died. Well, technically until it no longer properly functioned, and there are outside chunks of it now forever lost on the inside, but the fucking thing still won't turn off! Cut my knuckle up a good bit, and some blood was shed on my jeans, but it was worth it. So, I had to go out and splurge on this bad boy right here:

$99 (plus tax) and it sounds fantastic. Granted, I do have some luxurious Infinity Primus P362 speakers (nearly $200... each!), so that does help. And it sounds better than the now utterly useless Onkyo, at around one-third the price no less. Unfortunately there is no phono input to be found, so I'll be without vinyl for awhile. Let's see how long this one lasts before my technological slavery rage kicks in once again.

Vittra, serious question. Between the Audio equipment you seem to have, and unholy mother load of albums you've purchased based on posts, how much time do you spend listening to music on a daily/weekly basis?

Oh, serious question.

Probably about 2 1/2 - 4 hours each day M-F. Same or more on weekends.

Edit - I have only a small fraction of the gear our good friend Ken does! Sold those speakers I was talking about previously for a small profit, btw. Ended up with a pair of Kanto Yu5 active bookshelves for the PC. Distributor of electronics in Canada was selling the Matte black for pretty cheap. Good enough.

Ken is wild and wacky fellow, he probably stands there holding bottles of super elite beers in front of his speakers.. (Love you doomsniffer)

That is a reasonable amount of time to take in a shit ton of music. I often have to do most of my listening at work so most is via headphones and flac files on MP3 player

I'm glad I can't listen to music at work, it would be completely out of hand at that point. Most of my time comes from work commute and exercise, at least during the week.

I need some help with my AV system please. My Panasonic BD player just decided to stop performing its one directive which was to play BD media. The rest of my system consists of a Marantz NR1402 receiver, Apple TV, Xbox 360 and a Samsung plasma. The speakers are still the 3-way Sony Best Buy special I've had for 11 years now. For music, I stream iTunes via Apple AirPlay to a B&W Zeppelin. This has proved to be a reliable and enjoyable method of listening.
Im considering the Marantz UD5007 BD player as a replacement but I truly don't watch many BD at all - we use the shit out of Apple TV. Ive had the Interstellar BD sitting on a table for the past 3 weeks unwatched.
The NR1402 doesn't stream shit but the new NR1504 does. So, I'd have to sell the 1402 and buy the 1504 probably at a massive loss and still have no BD player and crappy speakers. I could sell the Zeppelin too.
Im not sure what to do. Give me some ideas.

I believe I could get a Bluetooth antenna receiver for the NR1402.
edit: Oh, and I can also send media to the Apple TV. Duh. Forgot about that shit. Seems like maybe my best move would be to sell the Zeppelin and buy some new stereo speakers. Id have to forgo the new BD for awhile if thats the case but that would leave me without a means to play any type of disc in my house...which doesn't seem to be a problem for me.

I ended up removing the receiver and speakers. I set the Zeppelin in front of the TV and have AppleTV sending audio to it via AirPlay. Then I researched the latest 5.1 kits and it looks like one needs to drop about $2000 for a reasonably non-shitty system. Even what I consider to be satellite speakers are running $250 each (i.e. B&W M1). Fuck it. Also....and this is really weird...I'm not sure the $700 Zeppelin sounds any better than the two $50 Sonys I had sitting on the floor. I'm actually not sure if either are any better than the TV speakers. Ok, I know they *are* but I mean significantly.

Yes, but they only seem to show up when Jerry voices his displeasure with them. They may have scripts running to detect this and address it ASAP.

Lol at my posts. I have since lost nearly total interest in A-V and hi-fi. It just dropped off a cliff. I'm glad I didn't spend a ton (or *any* for that matter) on stuff because I'd probably be kicking myself right now. I listen to music on the way to work in my Volvo (very nice balanced system tbh) and watch movies and shit on an iPad mini. Ha! FTW
