Audiophile Crap

I have one SACD album and nothing to play it on. So I downloaded the mp3 version illegally and burned that to a CD-R, which I keep in the fancy SACD case. The first and last time I ever beat the system.

oooh, yeah.

Edit: Don't worry about DSD unless you just wanna hear beautiful sounding "music" that you have no interest in whatsoever. The only time you'll ever use it is to impress your friends. Like SACD, HDCD, etc, that shit won't catch on because the general population could give a fuck and is happy listening to 128kbps mp3 files on their iPud out of their free iBuds...unless they go crazy and buy a pair of sweet-looking, kickass Skullcandys....or go completely beserk and buy a pair of Dre Beats and look cool as fuck wherever they go.

Yeah I wasn't going to even figure out what it was, mostly just surprised it even exists. 0.51% of the music I own would benefit from such a treatment.

I hope Pinto spends a mint on new stuff.

Every fibre of my being is simultaneously rejecting and accepting this notion. I was looking at a used Exposure 3012S2 Integrated Amp yesterday. $1695. What the fuck....BUT OMGOSH SO NICE

..and I'd still need a DAC

Are you looking for a detailed and accurate DAC or one on the warmer side of neutral? Actually, I guess it all depends on your speakers and Int. Amp. The Spendors are supposedly on the warmer side like the rest of them Brit designs so you'd probably wanna go with the former. Money-wise, what are you willing to cough up?

Also, why do you need all of this shit for your computer? Don't you have a 2-channel setup already?

...need? You know as well as I do that word doesn't factor into this madness at all. I could in fact use my headphones exclusively for my computer but what am I, some common peasant?!

The 683's are hooked up to my Pioneer Elite SC-05. I can hook the Spendors up as well, but both won't be able to be used at the same time. I considered moving over the Pioneer and getting something new for the HTPC setup just because the HDMI control has been finicky as shit on it.

All I need is a receiver with spdif toslink output, so I can do optical out from my mobo directly into it, and hook up the Spendors. There are no relatively cheap receivers that are either a) equipped with spdif toslink or b) worth a shit in terms of amplification, which is why I started looking at separates and got carried away. Whatever I get will probably replace my Fiio E7/E9 setup for my headphones as well so that it's all central.

I've seen some Cambridge Audio receivers (540R, 551R) and a couple other things that may fit the ticket and also be small to boot, but nothing local to snatch up at the moment.

If wanted to be really reasonable, I'd get rid of the Spendors and just upgrade my amp/dac for my headphones.

Most modern day integrated amps have really shitty headphone outs so I would think twice about that. Have you looked at the Peachtree stuff? Also, why do you need it to be local?

Is your 2-channel setup in the same room as your PC? Also, this is a desktop setup, correct? Have you considered active, near-field monitors?

Haven't looked at the Peachtree stuff. Doesn't have to be local, but CanuckAudioMart doesn't have the scope (both in product and prices) that Audigon does. That being said, it searches all of Canada by default so there really hasn't been much in general that I've been looking for.

Yep to both. I've looked at active monitors, anything that interested me (Swans MKII, NHT) aren't found here. Only active monitors readily available here are the Audioengine A5+. Reliability of the A5 was questionable enough that I stayed away even with the added heatsink on the A5+.

Peachtree stuff looks intriguing, particularly the Nova 125. Ticks all of the boxes. I do happen to have a near irrational hatred of products that cater to Apple (and Apple itself), but I believe I can curb that to see the merit here.

The site's vaguely familiar upon viewing it, did you or Dorian mention these guys on here before?

I dunno. Maybe?

They have a good reputation and are a great all-in-one solution. My brother-in-law used to have one of the older models a few years back and it was a great performer even despite it being class-D amplification which I usually despise. The headphone out isn't overlooked either. It's not uber-crazy or anything but it's definitely not a mere afterthought either. It's sexy looking too.

one day you will make an obscene purchase and we will all applaud your offering to the god of consumerism
