Awaken

Really? That's a shame. I remember laughing my ass off during class after the book fairs in elementary school. I used to get so excited about books and being able to buy new books when the book fair came to our school every year when I was like 8. Mad Libs, Choose Your Own Adventure, etc. Good times.

Yeeeaaah remember those? Back in like '87 I used to get so geeky and excited about all the new books coming out. They'd send you home with a catalogue so you could fill out and bring your money in the next day and buy it. I remember getting all the books I could get my hands on, but there were cool things like stickers and posters and stuff too.

Man, why can't we have simple pleasures like that anymore? I used to get excited over a fucking Choose Your Own Adventure book. Now I don't even get excited enough to check out free porn on the internet.

I remember buying some really cheesy Bill & Ted video game from one of those scholastic book fairs. It was pretty great/terrible.

I remember one book that I read for about 3 months and could never get to the end of it. It was a Choose Your Own Adventure called "Escape from Koran" or some shit like that, and it was actually borderline role-playing. I think that shit got me into RPGs in the beginning. It wasn't like the other kinda kiddie CYOA or anything which were cute but ended in about a day. This thing went on and on and on and every story was different.

Holy crap, remember Trapper Keepers?

Trapper Keepers were huge pieces of shit. I only had like two and they both fell apart really quickly. I preferred the the big heavy duty 3 ring binders with the plastic sleeves on the front because they made an awesome loud click when you closed them and I made Metallica collages from magazine photos to put on the cover. I think I actually still have one of those collages in a box somewhere haha.

I read every choose your own adventure book I could get my hands on. I don't remember the plot, but there was one I came across that you could only get the "good" ending by cheating and flipping through the book until you decided to start from that page. The author of that book was a huge jerk.

Trapper Keepers weren't allowed at my elementary school for some reason :bah:

But yeah, the Scholastic book club was awesome. I was never a big reader but it was still hella fun to order books and toys. I saw a Scholastic warehouse whilst driving around with Derick recently and it made me think of those good times.

Coca-cola shirts, friendship bracelets, and FRENCH ROLLING YOUR FUCKING GUESS JEANS OVER YOUR CONVERSE!!!

I was all of about 7 when that shit hit. It was all about Laser Tag and Captain Power at that point.

I read a lot of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type books before discovering Gamebooks such as Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy, and Way Of The Tiger. It was like CYOA mixed with D&D!

God I was (am) a dorky kid.

Those made a comeback a couple of years ago, ya know, in those quarter machines at grocery stores and whatnot.

But probably not the oldschool variety which , after repeat use, will result in sharp metal edges that slice deeper into your wrists with each slap!
