Sorry, but I can't think "Billie Jean" is cheesy. Love that groove.

For some reason this song has been stuck in my head all day:

Thought a of a few more 80's tunes - some defining sounds of the 80's.

The Cars Drive

Could probably make a thread alone on The Cars songs.

U2 Sunday Bloody Sunday (especially the Live at Red Rocks version - love it).

Another U2 song off of War - New Years Day

Could probably have another whole thread for U2 in the 80's

U2 Where the Streets Have No Name

Actually, that album had a few good songs on it. I'll have to see if I still have it.... (digs through old vinyl)

Here's a couple... Aldo Nova was pretty popular back in the 80's. He's a Canadian producer as well and has produced acts ranging from Celine Dion to Blue Oyster Cult and Jon Bon Jovi

Cheesy video from MTV when they actually played music:

I'm somewhat surprised no one has posted this one yet since it was played every 30 minutes on MTV at the time (at least it seemed that way).

Dire Straits Money for Nothing

Pat Benetar put out some great stuff including these two from her 1980 album Crimes of Passion:

Hell Is For Children

Hit Me With your Best Shot

More early 80's stuff.

Jefferson Starship Find Your Way Back

Too bad I can't include Jane by JS but it was released in 1979 - still a good era song. I'll just call it a bonus Jefferson Starship track before they became totally crappy.

Another great 80's song - Blue Oyster Cult Burning for You I could have sworn there was an official video for this one but I did not find it.

How could I forget one of my 80's favorites. Sure it was top 40 music, now probably called adult contemporary, but Toto was a special group of absolutely incredible studio musicians - some of the top at the time, most having appeared on literlaly hundreds of others albums aside from their own releases.

In 1982 Toto IV dropped and it catapulted them to the forefront of radio play. It won 6 Grammy awards including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Producer of the Year. It also happened to be the last record for a long time with Bobbie Kimball singing after he was fired in 84'. He returned to Toto 14 years later.

Rosanna

Great Jeff Porcaro drum pattern.

Africa

I Won't Hold You Back

Good choice with Loverboy - the Get Lucky album had quite a few good songs on it, many of which they recently rerecorded for their 2012 disc Rock n Roll Revival.

Another one I can't believe has not been mentioned is Journey - they hit the height of their popularity in the 80's with the albums Escape in 81', and it's followup Frontiers in 83'. While it propelled them to the top of the charts with songs like Don't Stop Believing, for many it marked the worst period in Journey's musical history. Rolling Stone's Dave Marsh has called Escape one of the the worst number one album of all time.

Personally I sort of liked Escape, but absolutely hated Frontiers (except for possibly Separate Ways) - if I never have to hear Faithfully again my life I will be all the better for it (note - I'm not posting the music video). That one song simply ruined what might be a decent album had I never heard it.
