Axe Fx Ultra ( reasons not to ? )

I think it really depends on what you're using it, for me it would be awesome
because I like the versatility and it would be pretty hard for me to get such
tones with a real amp and mic and stuff because that's way harder for me.

About the price point, it has pretty good support afaik and there are people
who buy a t.c.electronics g.force, an eventide eclipse, a speaker simulation
and a few different boosters.
Imho the sound quality, especially effect wise is as good as the mentioned
effects (not 100% there on the booster things, but at the g.force) and you
still have pretty good amp simulation and all the other things for less money.

The EVH 5150 in combination with the AXE (like Sasha's setup) would be the
perfect rig for me, but I would be glad to have the AXE by itself ;)
I am glad that I had the chance to try it out a few times.

I think the AxeFx is a great tool, but it doesn't replace a real tube amplifier. I use the AxeFx mostly for recording because it's easy to get the sound I want but when playing live and comparing my Dual Rectifier to the DR model on the AxeFx, there is a similarity but the depth and sweet highs aren't there on the AxeFx. I think the AxeFx is a bit overhyped online and I think guys have paid so much for it that they WANT it to sound really good and maybe they are denying reality or maybe they honestly like the sound of the AxeFx and I have no problem with that. Beware that when you go on the Fractal forums there are some very stern defenders of the AxeFx and if you don't like the sound of it and post on there then they will make you aware that it's your fault it doesn't sound good.

Yea the axe-fx crowd is like the jehovah's witnesses of the guitar gear world

It's a great product, I owned one for a while, but the user community can be a little out there at times.

I really like the ideas, and the sounds that people are getting from Axe-fx.. but I've not tried it myself.

Part of me thinks that some people will always argue that it doesn't have the same response etc as the real thing, but isn't that due to the linear processing of Axe-fx? If the measurements were taken as logarithmic data, and dealt with as log data then it would be closer to "analogue" simulation.

[correct me if i'm wrong!]

You obviously don't know what your're talking about

If anyone is interested, I can post some tone tests from the AFU. Dialed it in for my band's album and it sounds pretty damn good. It's hard to find good samples of this thing online.
cool to hear you are enjoying the axe fx.

Sure post your mix I'd like to hear it. Not sure what you mean about hard to find good samples of it online though, there is an entire forum on the fractal site with millions of sound clips.

yeah, there are millions of samples, but especially for metal, many samples suck,
I was visiting the hugeracksinc.com message board for a while, awesome players
but almost nobody there played metal so after a few guys got the Axe-Fx they
recorded some metal stuff and I just sounded like a guy who plays for 5 months
without some special talent playing through a stock guitar rig preset.

There aren't that many samples that show you how it sounds for metal outside
the djent world ;) It isn't that easy to find something like Ola's samples.
