Bad News for Amorphis fans...

Bah, you people have hardly listened to it at ALL. I listen to it fairly regularly since obtaining it back in 1999, and it just rules. Timeless album with a strange, intangible atmosphere and great slight folk influences. "Withered" ain't so great, though.

It's true, I didn't spend much time with it. I couldn't. It bored me silly. Sounds like a metal band trying to play corporate rock.

I've heard Tuonela too many times. It was my first Amorphis album from way back when it was released. I heard "Divinity" on a sampler and liked the song, so I bought the album. I liked it then. Then I got Elegy and Tales, and those two simply overshadowed Tuonela.

"Am Universum" sucks so much. Holy shit does it ever suck. I remember ordering that with Opeth "Blackwater Park" and Soilwork "A Predator's Portrait" back in the day, when all three were new. Funnily enough I hate all three of them now, but "Am Universum" I hated from day one. Superficially it's easy to say that it's stylistically similar to "Tuonela" but all the atmosphere is gone and so is most of the songwriting. Never sat through that putrid pile of stinking shit once.

You probably mean "Alone", that's the one I can stomach at least. I sold off "A Predator's Portrait" ages ago, I still have "Am Universum" because nobody wants it, and I still have "Blackwater Park" because I hate it the least of the three, though I doubt I will want to listen to it anytime soon.

I remember really liking Blackwater Park for some time, put it away for a year or so, then picked it up to fall asleep to one night. I fucking flung the headphones across the room during some acoustic interlude in half-awake madness, cracked myself up.

My Kantele and the acoustic reprise were pretty awesome Erik, you were right.
