Band Name and Logo Questions

I just have a couple questions, and I hope some of you can help me out. I have a band called Sentient in the San Diego area, and we have been playing a couple shows now, so everyone knows us by this name. Recently, we got a gig at a venue called the Jumping Turtle, and they mistook us for a band in LA called Sentient. I checked this band out, and they have a couple of demos out and have played a lot of shows. Will this become a problem later on? I'd hate to pay for a professional logo only to learn that we can't use the name anymore.

And regarding logos, can someone suggest some artists I can check out? Not black metal style, please.

Okay, thanks for the advice and link. The artist lives in San Diego, so that might make things a lot easier. Thanks again.

EDIT: This artist seems to draw in a more black metal/gory style. Do you have any other suggestions that are not so extreme? We are going for a more abstract/metaphysical theme.
