Band Names

I am sure a lot of you have the issue I have with band names, everyone you find is shit, even if at first you like it it oes shit eventually.

To find a name as good as Katatonia is impossible thats for sure.


Can anyone add some suggestions on ways to find a great name?

PS. Please dont post any suggestions, after a few years of looking its not funny anymore when someone puts "how about The Gay Monks, or Shitfurl or Pigeons Breast" it just adds to the frustration and aint funny.

I've been there and I know your pain. It's pretty much hopeless to find a name that suits the music and remains memorable at the same time.

I have the exact opposite problem..
Bandnames and ideas i have, but no bandmembers.

Heh, bands are just terribly annoying. My Death Metal band is going down the drain thanks to the lack of decent drummers, so I dunno what the hell I should do now

Write down 10-20 cool simple words you like, and combine two of them. Like Crow + head =Crowhead.

Not the best name. Just an example of how to do it.

Yeah, unless it goes to the point when you realize you given your band the name "Eternal tears of sorrow". I've searched Wikipedia for band names to no avail. I looked all the constellation names and names of ancient Gods etc. thinking about giving the name by choosing a cool name and changing a few letters in case there exists other bands named after the same thing. Fuck it, the name is still open.

And the only name that I suggested and they would've approved was Seraphim. After that I checked MySpace and there was at least 50-80 bands with the same name

I agree with Daimonion, but it doesn't have to be just combining words. Look through bands/song titles/everything else that you're influenced by. For example, if I were to start a band (and I intend to), I would use a name like Consternation. hah... or you could always look through a dictionary (or wikipedia) if you want to find cool/new words. Anyways, good luck coming up with a cool band name.

I think its at the point where all the good names are taken.
I thought a few years back that all the good riffs were taken...
then i discovered GOJIRA.

Theres still plenty of good names to have.Two of my favourite, recent bands are
Secrets Of The Moon and
Wreck Of The Hesperus
Two great names in my opinion. It just takes a bit of imagination.
