Bands like Orphaned Land (oriental metal etc.)

Ladies and gentlemen,
I heard Sepultura singing with Luciano Pavarotti, I heard string quartet arrangements of Pantera and Japanese ethnic arrangements of Smoke On The Water, I heard Chinese "true Kittie" girl's extreme growling, I heard black metal arrangement of Hava Nagilah and I heard Elvis Presley singing Hava Nagilah, I heard Jim Morrison singing Elvis Presley, I heard Cobain Kurt singing Jim Morrison, I heard Nirvana sang by a church choir, I heard Q'uran and Torah sang in metal way, I heard Christian death-metal, I heard avantgarde metal and post-avantgarde metal, but this case is SPECIAL:

BTW, Japanese Deep Purple arrangement:

(who cares it's JBO and not Pavarotti in fact?)

I heard there was a few people in the crowd in Rotterdam, it's a shame regarding the quality of those Bands (Arkan, Septic Flesh)
I've been shocked by their amazing performance in Nantes' gig, especially with Khaled's cover ("Didi")! Souvenirs, souvenirs ... ;)

Thanks for the reccomendation, I just checked out some songs of Arkan on their myspace and they are brilliant, very different from the rest of the French bands that I have heard so far [influences from the erstwhile french colonies? But the oriental bits are executed amazingly]

I'm sorry for the Ocean Land and Slaves For Life mp3s in the compilation. Please support all the bands by buying CDs.

thanks for recommending Altan Urag, I really like it now. Heard of another Mongolian rock band called Hurd. Couldn't find their cd but there are some songs on youtube. (less good)

Always welcome Dora.

Hurd's full discography here:

(Torrent file. You can get the files using utorrent.com, bittorrent.com, limewire or any other torrent agent. Send me a private message if the torrent does not work for you.)

PS: if you loved the band, please support them by ordering their CDs.

PS2: Their songs very much remind me ballads of a Russian Iron Maiden clone "Aria" :)

thanks!
well, I didn't like Hurd that much, Altan Urag is way better. By the way, I also recommend the soundtrack of the movie Mongol (it was Oscar-nominated last year), the band wrote 5 songs for it and the rest of it by Finnish composer Tuomas Kantelinen is also really good. The movie, too.

I found it interesting how similar these music are, for example the guitar melody in Altan Urag's Khiliin Chandad (Abroad) reminded me of OL's Building the Ark.. I'd really love to find a "scientific" explanation for that, other than "all oriental music are the same" :) Could be some special scale?

Heavensdust - this might be a little far from the topic, since it's from the Far East :) = Japan. still, it's oriental music and instruments with rock/metal, and my favourite, highly recommended! they're making their 4th album.

another band came to my mind, that might not be oriental enough but play good progressive rock music with some tribal drums and instruments like hammered dulcimer, gamelan and tabla: http://www.myspace.com/kaura

Septic Flesh has never been big in Holland as far as I understood. That might be the reason...
Nevertheless it was some great time and Arkan was the discovery of the past year for me anyway.

France is one of the european countries where you will find the most muslims and arabs from north africa, of course because of the colonial past and the opened frontiers during decades.
I think the french scene is one of the most diversified in the world, since many years, with known bands like SUP (supuration), Gojira of course, but also many small bands that always try to do something different (Impureza that mixes flamenco with metal, or Ultra Vomit that collects Duckies...). I have never found such a diversity in any other country!
