Yeah, we have been to see the show in Rotterdam. Currently we are working hard on trying to get Arkan some shows in Holland and around. They are too good to be playing so little!

I heard there was a few people in the crowd in Rotterdam, it's a shame regarding the quality of those Bands (Arkan, Septic Flesh)
I've been shocked by their amazing performance in Nantes' gig, especially with Khaled's cover ("Didi")! Souvenirs, souvenirs ...

YEAH- that cover was great! I was shocked by the quality of French bands whenever I got the chance to see them with Yannick. Why are such good bands hardly getting the chance to play abroad?
And ontopic; I think Arkan is seriously a band you should check out as an OL fan.

Thanks for the reccomendation, I just checked out some songs of Arkan on their myspace and they are brilliant, very different from the rest of the French bands that I have heard so far [influences from the erstwhile french colonies? But the oriental bits are executed amazingly]

thanks for recommending Altan Urag, I really like it now. Heard of another Mongolian rock band called Hurd. Couldn't find their cd but there are some songs on youtube. (less good)

well, I didn't like Hurd that much, Altan Urag is way better. By the way, I also recommend the soundtrack of the movie Mongol (it was Oscar-nominated last year), the band wrote 5 songs for it and the rest of it by Finnish composer Tuomas Kantelinen is also really good. The movie, too.

I found it interesting how similar these music are, for example the guitar melody in Altan Urag's Khiliin Chandad (Abroad) reminded me of OL's Building the Ark.. I'd really love to find a "scientific" explanation for that, other than "all oriental music are the same" Could be some special scale?

Septic Flesh has never been big in Holland as far as I understood. That might be the reason...
Nevertheless it was some great time and Arkan was the discovery of the past year for me anyway.

France is one of the european countries where you will find the most muslims and arabs from north africa, of course because of the colonial past and the opened frontiers during decades.
I think the french scene is one of the most diversified in the world, since many years, with known bands like SUP (supuration), Gojira of course, but also many small bands that always try to do something different (Impureza that mixes flamenco with metal, or Ultra Vomit that collects Duckies...). I have never found such a diversity in any other country!
