Bands you enjoy more than Opeth

lots and lots of jazz and jam bands...

Opeth or the Beatles for that matter, are not the epitomy of musical proficiency or adventurousness (if thats a word). Sure, the beatles were the most interesting band in the 60's and 70's... too many bands have come out after them - using and building upon what they did - for them to STILL be the best band ever... people who carry this opinion are stuck in the past in my opinion. Pink Floyd was my fav. band for the longest time, but many people have taken what Pink Floyd did and took it a step further, so although the might be a personal preferance, I cant hold the opinion that they are peerless in their songwriting or musicianship... Sam applies for the beatles...

I listen to lots of different kinds of music for lots of different reasons so to me it's silly to compare how much I like Opeth to how much I like some completely different band. Within the type of music that Opeth makes I don't think there's any band I think is better at it than them (old Katatonia comes close). But there are lots of other great bands covering very different territory that I also love.

extremely impressive list. not a single flaw. (ill let the windir slide)

if you like weakling, and the gault...check out "asunder". same guys, super emotive and powerful. funeral doom like thergothon or evoken...just more melody.
Windir, like a few other bands, I like out of obligation, as they were one of the first metal bands I liked. I will certainly check out asunder. I left out a couple more bands that I enjoy, like paatos for instance, I'm just a fan of Reine Fiske's style and technicality.

man, i have a hard time enjoying any band more than opeth. i think that its almost a problem. before them, i was always on a constant search for great music...ya know...THE band....then, i found it...and i have a hard time finding someone else that does it for me. its somewhat frustrating.

There's no bands I enjoy more than Opeth. I enjoy most of the bands mentioned here plenty, but not as much as Opeth. I do however prefer most classical music over everything.

fiske is easily my favorite guitarist, so i agree 100% however i wouldnt say his magic is in the technicality, for he really isnt that technical when it comes down to it. but he does have an unmatched feel and sound to his playing style. every lick, and bend and vibrato shake is perfect and in place. If a beautiful but almost sadness like emotion in the purest sense could be attributed to a guitarist, i would say its him. undeniable talent and vibe on everything he touches. their cover of "quiet drops" proves this...i didnt think that piece of music could get any more melancholy and dark...but reine and the gane dropped it about 5 notches even lower. fantastic album.

what I meant by technicality is that he is so tight in every aspect of the guitar. Every song he plays is so sure and solid. It's a different type of technicality. I guess I used the wrong word. I dunno, he just speaks through his guitar sometimes.

Opeth has become my favorite band (ever since Still Life), but my other favorites are :

Rush, Porcupine Tree, Voivod, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Message (the old german band), Arena,The Tea Party, King Crimson, Katatonia, Iron Maiden, the OLD Metallica, Pink Floyd, etc...

Cheers to All !:notworthy

I enjoy many bands because they're different than each other, and sometimes represent the same genres. Anyway, Opeth has always been on top, but close after comes Enslaved, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Camel, ELP, Yes, Rush, The Doors and Black Sabbath at the moment.

What the fuck is wrong with you people; Stickin' fingers in asses, fuckin' you mama, dyin' with a cock in your mouth. Stick to the subject of the thread. Your a bunch of Heathens. Now I know no-one cares what I think, but I'm gonna tell you anyway. Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Jimi Hendrix,Allman Bros., but Opeth are one of my favorite bands now. I have fucking evolved from a monkey to a man.
