Same as guitarists that waste most of their time shredding for 20 to 30 seconds of 'glory' per song, neglecting the rhythm playing that constitutes over 90% of it.

I agree, never been a fan of slap bass, let alone in metal, but I gotta say, Martin Mendez really knows what he´s doing when he applies it, always tastefully done.

I disagree. IMO, all you need is a good player, a fresh set of stainless steel strings and a decent bass that's set up.

I own one of those with an upgraded John East preamp... it's probably the best sounding bass I've ever heard.

Ignore the "processed" file. The raw one should be straight into the interface' Hi-Z input from what I remember. I don't have any 'heavy' examples of it however.

it's important for bass players to accept their role and spend more time learning to stay tight, using a pick, while jogging in place, and/or maintaining a consistent cyclone of metal hair swirl...depending on sub-genre.
