bass tone flow chart

in fact i think i'm going to release a specially taylored crabcore/plain boring metalcore bass. it will have one string only, and the only playable frets will be 0, 1, 3, 6, 8, and 12. it will ship with an instructional DVD on jogging in place, or... again, perfecting the hair cyclone, and how to decide which is right for you.

Why must bass guitars be so bloody expensive in this country... Damn Spector dealers are charging double what it'd cost me to import one. I JUST WANT A SPECTOR, DAMN YOU.

I'm looking at a Warmoth custom bass at the moment. I've deduced that an entirely-maple instrument should get me closest to the best sounding bass I ever tracked (which was this: http://www.guitar.com.au/guitars/bass/bc_rich/beast.htm). I think a combination of extremely bright tone-woods plus DC40s should give a good balance between mid-clarity, low-end and fret grind. Also, stainless steel fretwire is a must for extra clack.

Shitfuckballs, the 5 string looks tasty. Totally forgot about these, hear a lot of good things about them. I was looking at a Spector Legend Custom 5-stringer, ~$1200 here. What's the general sound like on those Squiers? Stock electronics any good?

It sounds perplexingly good for $299. i have no desire to buy another bass...probably ever. i just got a new set of DR's, i'll string 'er up and post some DI's through the countryman when I get a chance. Also feels really nice.... does not feel like a cheap guitar at all. Definitely looks/feels/sounds a shit ton nicer than my fender mexican p-bass.

Great stuff man, keen to hear anything you upload. Any tracks you've forwarded here that you've used it on? Would love to hear it in a mix.

May well be stealing this idea. Priced up a custom body/neck combo finished in delicious flame maple purple dye for ~$1000, sans hardware. Maple basses are just... nice. In a destructive, gritty way. Ebony fretboard should make it interesting too!

Not to hijack the thread, but what are some good pickups for heavy distorted bass on a usa fender jazz? ... Our new bassplayer has one, but the pickups lack sustain + punch and hum like crazy. I've heard good things about the dimarzio model J's ... Anyone to share his experience?

put EMG's in it!

I think it's funny how much time bass players waste slapping which is completely useless 99% of the time unless your in a funk/r+b band.

I respectfully disagree, if done well it can sound incredible in metal. Check out the Arusha accord. Their bass player does nothing but slap and it is just bludgeoning and awesome.

I think the problem with slap bass is that most people suck.
