if they emerged out of today's music scene, you wouldn't give them a second thought. everyone just thinks they're great because they're history. it's a prime example of a band defined by their publicity.
If Led Zeppelin came out today, do you think anyone would give a shit about them? Probably not dumbass. The Beatles were in the 60's. They pretty much invented a whole new sound. Nobody sounded like that in the 60's. That's why they're admired. Sure their music was a little poppy, but what wasn't back then? And its still good. Timeless music is hard to come by.
