Battlefield 3 PC Beta!?

Generally.
-The sound is incredibly unbalanced
-Lots of little graphics bugs
-Not being able to zoom (fixed by a weapon change)
-And the interface and menu design is shit, straight up.

I remember the menus in the Alpha to be too console like and harder to navigate than BFBC2. On a PC, you can have most everything in one screen, but I can understand it being easier to keep all versions the same.

You ever played the Battlefield series before?
Best vehicle implementation of any shooter imo, historically they've also had the best balance of simple/arcade style gameplay with enough of a milsim vibe to make the game fun.
That's coming from someone who only plays deathmatch in UT.

Yeah, I´ve played a bit of all the versions because some of my friends love the game. I am a Call Of Duty kinda guy, so the lack of 1x1 combat, huge maps, vehicles and the time it takes to engage on combat by foot are too frustrating to me.

The way EA advertised Battlefield 3 I thought it would be a CoD killer. It would do what CoD does, but better. From that gameplay footage I seems to me that it´s just a gorgeous looking new version of Battlefield and doesn´t go nowhere near of the CoD gameplay. Much more about strategy and distribution of vehicles on the map than "run n gun" frag fest.

So far it seems like they have actually pushed it in the modern warfare direction.

I'm really really dissapointed so far, all they had to do was what they did with 1942>bf2.
Just refine the game.
It feels like it's trying to beat cod, rather than just be a good game.
More importantly it doesn't feel like Battlefield game.

BFBC2>BF3

a coworker of mine went to E3 and played the console version and really enjoyed it. Since the beta/demo is out on xbox now as well, I'm gonna download it tonight and check it out.

Got Windows 7 running (pretty decent so far), and I am downloading the Beta now. (@Soultrash: You have to install Origin and then download it from there)
My DL speed is 45 kbit/s, 23 hours remaining... awesome! not. Origin reminds me a lot of early Steam: Buggy, unreliable, slow downloads etc... hopefully they'll improve it. Steam rules by now, so let's hope for the best.
And here's +1 on hating the browser based server index. I mean come on - that's the shittiest idea I've ever heard of. I sure hope they'll change that, allthough I highly doubt it.

@ratsapprentice: Yes I read and saw from the videos that the Metro map is bretty CoD'ish. The other maps are more like BF2, though.. larger, less inside buildings, lots of vehicles etc. A german games newssite wrote you can get keys for one new map somewhere on the Dice or EA forums and that this map feels a lot more like Battlefield. I hope the general direction is BF1942 / BF2 and not Call of Duty.

@Pedro: Dude you can't fucking play a shooter on console. Lame auto-aim is lame  Also the player limit on consoles is 32, on PC it's up to 64 again (hell yeah).

All that said, CoD MW is for kiddies and noobs and BF for the cool guys ;)

I thought the map was cool, the gameplay just seems... off

And I love BFBC2 and enjoy COD gameplay (although I loathe the series for all the usual reasons)

:S If this game is not 100% fun I will have to visit DICE and hit them in their faces. Hard.
My Origin ID is jipchen btw.

Just read that you can now accept or decline a revive
medium_586_01_05_11_4_31_42.jpeg

No more triple instat-deaths if there's a retarded medic near you

Gameplay is pretty fun, especially on the attacking side, its big enough to feel like you're part of a team, rather than just FFA. I've never really played games like this much before tho, so nothing to compare it to.

Very glitchy: I keep getting shoved around, if anyone is within a few metres of you you get pushed violently away, even if you're in prone you'll instantly move 3m away.. into enemy fire, the defending team seems to have flashlights that completely blind you, lots of weird terrain issues. Not finished at all. I was also quite unimpressed with the graphics.. it's maybe slightly better than Crysis, on max everything. Maybe these aren't the top settings, in order to keep the filesize low for the beta.

morgoe123 is my ID.

I've heard that a few of the high end settings are being held back for now.

Am I the only one that has noticed the sound issues? It just sounds incredibly empty, I keep checking that I havent muted it.
I can't really hear other people shooting.
I really hope that the difference between beta and final is huge.

Anyone having problems with the video settings? They don't seem to take effect unless you restart the game. It's pretty sluggish for me at anything but LOW on 1920x1080 resolution, and I have a pretty good gaming PC. I got the AMD driver hotfix and it's slightly better, but it's kind of a pain to have to restart the game every time I tweak a video settings.

So after playing for some hours I can say I'm excited about the final release. Assuming it's anything as good as BF1942, BF2, BC2 that is. The Beta is very buggy and also has some gameplay issues imo. I read that it is confirmed we will get back the Commo Rose from BF2 for the communication / spotting etc, that's fucking great (at least on PC). The minimap and the normal map are good looking but completely useless, I hope they'll fix them. Also the browser based server system sucks, the rest of the Battlelog is very cool though. I like having Forums for Bugs, Technical Support, Feedback, etc, the Community functions like on facebook, friendlists, the ability to form mini clans, look at your stats and see what unlock is coming up next - all in one place. Also Origin has a chatsystem like Steam, you can activate it ingame.
I still wished they'd have offered the game through steam without the crappy Origin client but I think it will eventually become a useable app. In this beta (Origin is also a beta) it crashes every 10-20 minutes, and I get loads of disconnects and weird error messages. Some of that might be due to the high number of players, the servers just can't hold up.
I also read the Beta build we're playing is one month old at least, and DICE has posted a number of known issues in the Beta that are already fixed in the final release. I hope for the best.

BF3 will certainly be different from Battlefield 2 or Bad Company 2, but it's a lot of fun - even now. Btw I suck at BF3 .. playing like a noob

@Max: Well yeah, but EA is the fucking evil of games. They see someone profiting from a really WELL DONE platfrom (Steam) and decide 2000 years after to try and copycat to get a piece of that pie, fuck that shit. Origin is a piece of shit and you know it :p

ok, i got it running and i was playing about two hours yesterday and today.
here's my summary, even everything it was mentioned before.

i actually just configured a 2K gaming/recording/mixing computer just to be
able to play this but i am really not sure anymore if i should spend so muhc money on a good GPU
since it seems that the complete gaming industrie is lead by complete morons.

origin sucks, i don't get it, what is it for!? i don't see any sense in this,
i guess a quick start icon on the desktop that allows you to start a game is not cool enough anymore...

battlelog, what is this shit!? you want all the information from and about me?
OK, here's a picture of my asshole besmeared with grease, have fun EA!

browsing servers in the webserver is fucking retarded, and, uhm...it's really fucking retarded.

even for a beta this game is buggy as hell, and it looks really funny especially all the glitches, yeah funny but not FUN

even if it's not what makes a good game to me, i'm a bit disappointed of the graphics,
i have set everything to ultra high and it still looks good but not that good as seen in all the trailers etc.
maybe the beta does not allow the highest quality settings or whatever...

clipping, or whatever this is called. i hate games where i can see the inside of everything,
the players are "hollow" the weapons are hollow, the terrain is hollow, ok i guess it has to be that way but
it should not be that obvoius. i hate to step through people and objects and walk throuugh them like they are not even there,
this kills a lot of the amtosphere IMHO. it also feels like everything is ultra light, i can't see any impact, i don't know how to
describe this correctly but it feels like everything is floating.

giant maps, yeah the maps are giant but you'll die if you move to far away from the squad leader, FAIL!
it's like yeah there is this giant terrain but you are not allowed to go there, tee-hee.

good things about the beta, sound is very cool, fast gameplay is cool. i love running through the train station with a
pistol and shoot everything down that comes in my way, harrrrrrrrr! :D

Why is everyone saying it sounds good?
Mine sounds like shit :( must be drivers issues, I cannot believe what I am experiencing is what you guys are praising.

Also, other players are not traversable for me, they are solid.
The graphics, as has already been mentioned, are apparently restricted in the beta.
I do know what you mean about the game feeling "light" though.

there are enough games where you can't tell if there is someone shooting in front or behind you,
in BF3 every sound source is easy to locate, this makes it sound really good in general.
the sound itself are OK, not sure how realistic these are.

the graphic restriction, it feels like the publisher is trying to hide something,
maybe the game has a really poor performance on high settings...

damn, trying to join for almost half an hour. seems like EA used origin to hack me.
now they can read everything i post and as i posted a few negative
things i am not allowed to play anymore
