while that article is totally fucked up, I can't help but think how you all would be reacting had the judge decreed that the parents could not teach their son Christian values and beliefs.
Any belief system that teaches that Group A is good/saved/superior/etc. and Group B is evil/lost/inferior/etc. needs to go the way of the dinasour.

I think we're probably no worse than most countries, and certainly no better. We have our strengths and our weaknesses. Unfortunatley, we're trapped with a two party system. And often it's hard to tell who's in which party. The problem is, the right is much more galvinized. The majority of us are in the middle. But the middle doesn't tend to get involved. As Jon Stewart said, "We need to take to the streets, throw our fists in the air and scream, Let's be reasonable!"

What we need is for the Libertarian party to take power. It will never happen. But it would be nice.

I love that man. Love love love him.

Libertarian would be good, the only problem is I could see a lot of people getting out of control with it. Like that one Simpsons, Be Like the Boy? The townspeople go by the motto "if it feels good, do it" and the whole town collapses by the end.

Yesterday, I watched that Simpson Halloween show where aliens duplacate the president candidates. When they are revealed, people realize that they have to vote for one of the aliens, since it is a two party system, much to their dismay. Then, someone says, "What if I don't vote for either of you?". The aliens laugh and say: "Do you really want to waste your vote?"

I just thought it was fitting...

Btw, I suggest you move to any province but Alberta. People say it's just like a mini-USA.

It's like a frozen Texas. I swear. They have the oil, the cows and everything.

My signature is frequently that "We want to go forward, not backward! Upward, not forward! And always twirling, twirling, twirling, for freedom!" :tickled:

They even have ranches and wear cowboy hats. and the Calgary Stampede! WTF.

fortunately I hope my education in Edmonton will only be for a few more years and then I can go away. Lots of Christian fanatics around there too.

It's true!

Yeah, truthfully both suck, and this country is constantly trapped in the "vote for the lesser of two evils" syndrome. Let's face it, most people that voted for Kerry only did so because he wasn't Bush.

My parents in law were stuck between Kerry and Bush so between them, each candidate got a vote. So effectively, they cancelled out each others vote. Why? So they could KEEP the two party system. Yes, believe it or not, some people do not see the need for anything other than Reps vs. Dems.

If people had balls, they would vote for Ralph Nader.

Tthere is this little thing we have called the 1st Amendment, forget what the judge says, it matters not. I'll practice the religion of JEDI KNIGHT if I want to.

Also, J.'s quote made me bust out laughing. We don't care what religion it is, it's that this numbnuts thinks he can restrict the practice of any religion at all.

This country is simply going to hell in a handbasket. NAD said it very well, we're all just a bunch of selfish, narrow-minded retards in this nation anymore and unfortunately it hurts the sensible people too.

oh please, if Bush all of a sudden outlawed Christianity for some reason, you're telling me you'd be pissed? Most in this forum would get a huge grin on their face and then take the high ground of "well restricting religion is wrong", like is being done now. Don't deny it.

How about we ask Ayeka what he thinks.

Well, when the CA Supreme Court banned the Pledge of Allegiance a few years back over the "one nation under GAWD" bit, I was pissed.

:tickled: Did you just miss that post I made there? I just said that I think it's ridiculous how selfish and uncaring people are in this country, especially when it comes to things that don't impact them. Would outlawing christianity impact me? No. But, would I find it objectionable and flat out wrong for a government with an amendment giving us all freedom of religion to outlaw ANY religion, yes.

It's as simple as that. There are a great many things that I'm not affected by, but I still will gladly make my voice heard on them and that is the way it should be. I believe as an American it is my duty to see what is wrong, question it and try to fix it. Would I be on your side, even as a non-christian? Yes, I would. But, in a country that preaches equality and freedom for all, it had damn well better back it up to the fullest extent and I'm here to make sure it does. Now, if anyone else doesn't feel the same way, feel free to question them, but I think it's clear where I stand.

Oh, and ask Ayeka by all means, the opinion of an extremist nazi is always representative of the majority of moderate opinions to be found here. :tickled:

I think people do care about religion, even atheists. If they didn't care, they wouldn't waste so much time bashing it, even though it does not affect them on a personal level.

I only care about it so much as it impacts the world I live in. Clearly were in what amounts to a religous war now. Well, it's also about oil. Actually, it's pretty much about everything but what they told us it was about.

And for the record, I for one would be a bit nervous if they banned Christianity. Seeing as how that would fulfill a biblical prophecy, signaling that the end is near. And whenever people go around fulfilling biblical prophecies, I get nervous.
