Id have to agree with you on Metallica as one of the great bands in the 80's...back then there was a lot of great bands and is hard to say who the greatest band was of the 80's..
Too many to choose, to many sub-genres. Still, if I had to choose, I'd say probably Iron Maiden, followed closely by Mercyful Fate - true the latter only made 3 albums in the 80s, but their quality is so high that they are in the running for best band.
Annihilator or Overkill or King Diamond but probably for me Helloween for the Walls Of Jericho EP, Keeper 1 and 2. Without those albums I wouldnt have gotten into metal as much.
I'd probably pick Maiden because their first 7 albums were all released in the 80's. Can't think of another band that released that many during that span, with that much quality...
others for me would be Queensryche, Metallica, Loudness, King Diamond, Scorpions, and anything DIO was involved in.
Astounding, underrated, overlooked Canadian band. Their only album plus bonus tracks has been reissued twice. Is one of those bands that got me so hard that I'm still cry they never make it bigger they had a male vocalist and a female vocalist with similar ranges at different times. To me is one of those bands that should be in any collection nont only in the name of rarity and compassion , but because is great metal
too hard. either megadeth, metallica, slayer, ozzy, anthrax, or dio unless we count hair metal then add poison, bon jovi, ratt, motley crue, twisted sister, w.a.s.p., quiet riot, queensryche, dokken
