My favorite Opeth album is Morningrise followed by Blackwater Park or My Arms, Your Hearse.
I got into Metal from a close friend of mine. It all started around April 2002. At the time, it was his favorite genre and he began interducing some music to me. I didn't know what bands they were at the time, but here are some of them: Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Balsagoth, Children of Bodom, Opeth, MY Dying Bride, Mayhem, Megadeath, Strapping Young Lad, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Marylin Manson, Jack off Jill, and more bands, not all metal as you can see... I remember after listening to one of his death metal albums he asked me what I thought of it and I simply replied in an innocent voice, "I don't like that growling," referring to the death growls of an unknown band. I recongized the genious of the insturmentals, but at the time, I didn't like the growls (possible Wild Child's of CoB or maybe Mikael's) When he came over to my house I burned 3 Mike Patton albums and 2 random others. They were: Faith No More (Angel Dust - 10/10), Mr. Bungle (Disco Valente - 9/10), Fantomas (Director's Cut 6/10), Children of Bodom (Follow the Reaper 10/10), and Opeth (Blackwater Park, 10/10). I didn't listen much to Opeth and sided towards the others. I gave BWP to my ex-girlfriend, attempting to scare her away... I think it worked... she stopped talking to me... Oh, I do believe that it was Children of Bodom that really got me into Metal. Wild Child's guitare riffs made the death growls enjoyable and I began to like them. This was around the same time that I purchased the Blackwater Park album. Anyways, sometime around July 2002, I was at BestBuy one day looking through the music and noticed Opeth BWP Special Edition on sale for $11.99 and I figured that I would give it another try by listening to the whole album; if I didnt like it then I could resell it for more on eBay. I listened to it and became hooked on the classical, gentle sections of the music, including Harvest, The Drappery Falls, and Patterns in the Ivy. After listening to it a few times I began to enjoy the growls and heavy sections. From then on, my love for Black and Death Metal took off. I am simply fascinated with Mikael Akerfeldt. I get everything that he is associated with and I enjoy it all, thoroughly, including, Katatonia, Edge of Sanity, and Porcupine Tree. Morningrise has been my favorite album since October/November 2002. Of course, I listen to non-Opethian related music.
