I'm planning to write some heavy shit soon, and I need a brutal and horrible tone to go with it:D

I want to know what amp sim would be best for getting a djent/slipknot style tone? I have my guitar in tuned down to drop A with a 70 bass string at the moment, and might do some 8 string tunings too.

I've been getting into Iowa and All Hope Is Gone recently and really like some of the guitar tones on these albums! but the sound I really want to get close to is Chaosphere, this album is my fucking best album

please don't associate Meshuggah and Slipknot guitar tones with each other, the Slipknot tone is terrible :p

this album is my fucking best album

You made it?! ;)..

Slipknot tones are layers of real amps, with a lot of tube distortion.
Meshuggah tones are generally Line6 amps, digital as all hell.

They're polar apart.
A really tight low end can be achieved by sticking a TS or OD pedal in front of an amp, and removing a lot of mids.
But, srlsy, 90% of tone is in the hands. Picking technique must be good to achieve either sound.

a bass string o_0 that shouldn't be necessary.

things to consider:

in the case of meshugga, a TON of that tone is coming from the bass, which IIRC is generally tuned up a few steps to match the guitar, instead of an octave down below audible. and they use axeFX, not line6, i thought? bulb gets a remarkable djenty tone from his axeFX.

those tell-tale tones come from the tuning/play style/strings/pickups more than the amp. focus more on that and you should get solid results from any of the free VSTs, nick crow/lepou etc.

Onqel's TSE plug is prob your best current candidate for this, but since that album was boosted Rectifier, LePou's upcoming Rectifier sim will likely get you closer.

Chaosphere was Rectumfrier (+ TC Electronic Integrated Pre IIRC) through Marshall 1960A, miced with a Neumann TLM 193.

It was Nothing when they went POD...

Thats when the Meshuggah tone started to suffer...

I'm not saying that the Meshuggah tone is anything like the Slipknot tone, what I meant was that is there an amp sim that can get tones like Meshuggah and tones like Slipknot. Anyway, from the things people replied with, it looks like I will have to train my picking hand a bit more

Here is a very short and shitty sample of my current 7 string sound - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3163522/7 STRING TEST.wav

To tell the truth I'm really disappointed with this sound as I spent a long time getting it

Have a listen dudes! What can I do to improve this sound? I can post screen-shots of the settings I had later.

Anyway, back to the main topic! This is the sort of Slipknot'y tone I would like to get close to -

I just really like these two songs! I don't know why, they get my mood out though o_O

Any as I mentioned before, the Chaosphere tone is my favorite Meshuggah tone.

It is when your guitar is as short as mine is:lol: Mine is only a 25 inch scale or some shit, its pretty small.

TSE does get pretty close to that sort of sound but the sound it gets is more like Nothing or Catch 33 than Chaosphere, its a bit fizzy, even when I hi-pass the shit out of it. That Chaosphere tone is so dry and metallic, its so horrible but so cool at the same time :D

Here the settings are for that short shitty clip :D

this is a pretty long list though... The red lines show what order they were used in.

They're cracked... I still can't see how Reaper plugins aren't enough for a start.

I'm not going to say how I acquired them, but do you think they are really worth $8000? jesus motherfucking christ, the price of their shit is incredible, I know its good stuff, but for ONE noise remover, £400/$800:OMG:

Also, I still use good ole Reape plugins but the noise removal plug they have just isn't good enough, its plain crap compared to waves noise remover :D

Welcome to the world of audio engineering. Shit costs. Good shit costs more. Actually, welcome to the fucking real world. You think $20.000 is too much for a car? Then don't buy it. Get a cheaper one instead. Or don't buy one at all. Get a fucking bicycle.

I'm so tired of this shit.

As I said on this board, they're jews for a reason.
