Best amp sim for meshuggah/slipknot style tone?

I'm sort of somewhere inbetween the digitalness and the "real amp"-ness. I don't know what my tone is perceived like by others but I think it sounds digital "enough" to work for my music but without being all too digital, harsh and nasty.

As for the best amp sim for this... I don't know. I don't think there is a best amp sim for this. Teh djentz depend mostly on these factors:

- New fresh strings
- The bass guitar's interaction with the guitars
- Playing style

Once those things are "right", I think you can achieve a djenty tone with just about any amp sim really. I chose to work with WarpVST because it's the only amp sim I feel works for my current music but I have a hard time believing you'd like it :) But seriously, new strings make a WOOOOOORLD of difference so you can't really setup a djenty tone through some amp sim using old strings... it just won't sound right. I've tried doing it and when I switched to new strings, the tone changed so dramatically that I could no longer use the same effect chain. I had to go back and redo some stuff.

It also helps if you boost the mids/upper mids before the guitar goes into the amp sim. It brings out this metallic djenty percussive sound from the guitar. I've located my sweet spot to be around 1450 hz if I remember correctly. The bandwidth of the boost is up to you but I think I have mine set at about 1 octave, and the boost's strength is about 6db.

I have tried playing around with compressing before the amp sim but I haven't gotten very good results so far but I think I'll give it another go sometime... I like the idea of squashing the dynamics a little bit before the amp to bring out an overall more "evenly" saturated tone.

I've tried out the Warp vst before and had a hard time getting a sound I liked out of it, I'm going to continue trying to get a djent sound using TSE X30 for now, its an awesome amp sim :D I like over gained sounds!

Well I'm using bass strings at the moment, but I should be getting some new really heavy ones reasonably soon, so that could help get the sound as well.

Thanks for the info dude :headbang:

I'd go Line6, MSDiamondplate and/or MSBig Bottom to be exact

agreed, i know from interviews they're big fans of Line6

A friend of mine was round and we were messing around in Bb tuning on his Mick Thompson Ibanez going into the 7170 plugin into the 421 framus impulse, and if you use a high presence and high trebles you'll get close to it...

we were using 10-52 D'Addario strings

using bass string?? what guitar are you using?? I would have suggested going for a lighter bass string or simply a heavier gauge guitar strings...

The bass string is a 72 and a 46

I'm using my Vintage VJ6EMR guitar, its humbucker is pretty high output.

Where did you get the Framus impulse from dude?

Hmmm, if you're going for their 8-string tuning then i guess this'll work well, which make bass strings you using??

The impulse i found in one of the bigger impulse collections on here, its a folder full of different branded cabs, in there is a folder called Guitar Impulses... i'll check when i get home (at work now) and i'll let you know exactly where to get it

Digital is whack! All real amps and real mics going through some NEVEs is when shit starts sounding cool. Also for guitar there is SO MUCH more than just the amps, even the PICK makes a fuckin difference. I just recorded a band where we actually would switch picks on different riffs because it would bring out the bass a tad more.

Of course I would rather use real amps through NEVEs but I can't afford to but new pickups for my guitar, let alone rent a whole studio out:lol:
