I thought I'd create one formal thread for everyone to vote on who was the best band at ProgPower III. Who rocked you the most, who surprised you the most. Vote for your favorite, and feel free to make any comments about the performances.

I don't think they were the best performance overall, but they really blew me away. I was not prepared for how good this band would sound. I went out after the show and picked up two of their albums.

While I loved 8 of the 10 bands there, it didn't take me long to pick Angra as the best performance of the festival. It was fitting to have them close the show.

However, I ws totally blown away by Pain of Salvation!!! I knew what I was in for with Angra since I had the chance to see them at Wacken, but I had no clue what I was in for with PoS. That performance was incredible. What a shame it was to have 3-400 fans leave after Blind Guardian. I was not happy about that, but oh well, it was their loss. AMAZING!!! Bring them back every year!!!!!

Finally, whwere would we be without Glenn!!! Great job again bro. You are the reason these bands may begin touring the states. I can't thank you enough!!! Put my 2 Badges on hold for next year (I don't need to know the lineup, or even where or when it is being held!) It doesn't matter!!!

I flew down from Boston mainly to see Blind Guardian but they were blown away by Edguy. I really like edguy but I never expected to them to be so great live. BG was ok, I was a little Surprised that they were not great (I still ove them and will be seeing them tommorrow w/ Sym. X at Worcester).

I must say that I never heard of Threshold before but I loved there music, so I bought a couple of there cd's and had them signed. Got to talk to them for a while, they were very cool and big soccer fans as am I.

ANGRA totally blew me away. I have to admit a bias as I really like their new material, but they played better than I could have hoped. Blind Guardian and POS were great too. And Edguy....too bad I couldn't vote for 4 bands.

Vtravi - I flew from Boston as well. Maybe I'll see you at the Palladuim tomorrow.

There is no way I could pick just one band from the whole selection....

I paid good money to have my ass kicked, and all the bands didn't disapoint... I have a footprint from everyone that took the stage that night and I am STILL sore!

I think the highlights for me were Angra, Edguy, Threshold and Devy. I was very excited to see Gamma Ray after all these years....totally worth it for me.

Unlike last year, I was in the stadium for EVERY band for at least 3/4 of their set if not the entire thing, where as last year I was in the hall way mingleing from time to time and sitting on my duff with a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other BS'ing with other festival goers and the bands that played.

I was burnt out at the end of the day (night???)... it rocked my hairy ass, and I plan on doing it again, and again, and again!

Devin was a disaster. He was the worst of the bunch.

Threshold were the best surprise, perhaps along with Reading Zero.

But of course, the general consensus was that Edguy were the best by miles. I agree. They should have headlined and swapped places with Pain of Salvation (who were also very good).

I just think Edguy would have closed the show on Friday better than PoS.

Devin Townsend was the best, most original and most progressive band there.

I agree with the last poster that Threshold and Reading Zero were pleasant surprises.

Devin was the most progressive band there??? I don't see how you can classify him as progressive. While you are entitled to your opinion, "best band there" is taking it a bit too far. The most progressive band there was definitely Threshold, and then Pain of Salvation.

I voted Edguy simply because as so many of you have already mentioned they just brought the roof down. As my new friend General Zod said, they came and "laid waste to the place."

I already loved them and was blown away, so it's really cool to hear that so many "on the fence" types were digging them too. They barely edged Gamma Ray for best band overall in my book, but there really were no total stinkers. I don't particularly like PoS, Zero Hour & Devin, but I respect what they do at least. Reading Zero, Threshold & Silent Force were all very pleasant surprises for me and damn them for making me buy even MORE friggin' CDs. :D

But Edguy ruled the ruins that day. It helps that a nicer, more down-to-earth group of guys can't possibly exist either. I was lucky enough to get to hang out with Jens, Eggi, Toby & Dirk quite a bit (I really don't know where Felix was!) and I loved them even more. I couldn't be happier for them that they got the reaction they did! Can't wait til they finally get over here for a proper tour...

Stay metal all!

I geuss it depends on your classification of progressive. I look at progressive as taking music where it hasnt been before. Devin i wouldnt necessarily classify as "progressive metal" like I would POS and Threshold, but to me, his MUSIC (which is nearly impossible to pin one label on) is as progressive as it gets.

Along these lines of thinking I would say that POS is certainly progressive, Threshold is not all that progressive. Theyre not really pushing any new boundries with their music. Though they kicked major ass, Threshold did.

Theres a difference between truly being "Progressive" and being a "Progressive Metal band" to me. A lot of bands fall under the progressive metal label these days, but theyre really just rehashing whats been done before. Just my opinon. Take it as you will.

Point well taken.
As for me, PoS totally kicked my ass! Amazing what these guys could do live.

I agree with pretty much everything you have said about POS on here. It's a damn shame that that many people left before they played. Personnally I was not able to catch the full set, but I stayed for about an hour of it. I really liked these guys before seeing them live, now I love them. First thing I did when I got there was sign u[p for the POS fan club. After seeing their set, I was really, really glad I did that. Picked up a POS poster from the inside out table, and grabbed a copy of Entropia before leaving the next night. :D

Daniel Gildenlow is a phenomenal singer/frontman/performer/comedian :D

I really hope they do a US tour one day.
