Static's semi-review thingy of In Absentia:
Well....more details about Porcupine Tree, ok. Well, their main singer is Stephen Wilson who has produced Opeth's BWP and Deliverance CDs, and he sang a large part of the song Bleak. PT's music is not metal, its more like progressive music in the vein of Pink Floyd, and its also very reminiscent of the style of Radiohead's OK Computer. Their latest CD is In Absentia, which was recommended to me by people on the off-topic forum. Well...its not metal, but dammit, it is brilliant. Every song is a classic, and like I said, its creepy because the album tells the story of a young man growing up and slowly but surely going crazy. There are little hints throughout as to his growing madness, and he becomes a serial killer. The first line of the album itself is very creepy:
"Mother sings a lullaby to a child,
Some time in the future the boy goes wild"
Also, the CD has some very heavy moments, unlike any of the other Porcupine Tree releases which have little to no distortion. According to main man Stephen Wilson, working in Opeth's CDs gave him the idea to use heaviness in PT's music, and it adds an awesome new aspect to their sound, which was already seemingly at its peak on another of thier albums called Light Bulb Sun, which was also brilliant. Look into In Absentia, you will like it, trust me.
Well...thats that. I only wrote this much because I am so impressed by this album at present. Love it!
