MURAI... that isn't their debut album. Actually, I think that's their fifth or sixth album.

It was the sixth album, although Pantera consider it only to be their second offical album. Cowboys from Hell is their official debut. I think they wanted people to forget about their little "heavy glam rock" era...

Deicide - s/t

Suicidal Tencencies - S/T

I never will. *shudders* I hate hair metal/glam rock. Everybody says how nu-metal is bad but I think that is worst. I have all their metal CDs now and they're all great in their own special way. :)

Funny though....the Power Metal record actually is pretty damn entertaining. Its very Priest-ish (a lot more silly and juvenile than JP), but a fart coming from the collective ass of Primal Fear is a bigger Priest rip off IMO. I think the Power Metal record is light years ahead of their previous releases, which to be nice about it, were pure, unadulterated SHIT. But you can see, at least w/Dimebag, the natural evolution of thick, riff based aggressive shredding that he would later popularize. The riffs on that record are actually pretty good. Still glammy in parts though.

Here's one glam-era Pantera song title that is great: "Proud to Be Loud"

Its pretty shocking to hear Phil singing that way, lemme tell ya. Think "Shattered" from CFH with spandex, a sock in the pants, and Cheez-Whiz.

The other singer(s) theyve had were just total, utter crap.

The old Pantera isn't really that bad, and I can actually enjoy some of that stuff though maybe with a bit camp-attitude ;) And returning to the subject, some of my favorite debut albums:

Kreator - Endless Pain
Destruction - Infernal Overkill
Sarcofago - I.N.R.I.
Beherit - The Oath Of Black Blood
Metallica - Kill 'Em All
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Mutilator - Immortal Force
Sadus - Illusions
...among many many others...
