I like both their periods and my favourite Elend album has shifted a lot across the years, from Les Ténèbres du Dehors - flawed in many ways, but also in many ways the quintessence of dark "orchestral" music - to the gorgeous, weightless Winds Devouring Men, now to The Umbersun, which is where their music touches insanity and serenity at once.
A World in their Screams is also brilliant, and a lot different even if the musical forms elaborate to a large extent from the previous two albums. It is probably the first of their works that would deserve to be marketed as (contemporary) classical music. In fact some parts sound totally like Ligeti.
I am very excited about what the guys have to offer next - although it will never be Elend anymore.
