Best metal ballad....

I believe that the best ballad I have ever had the pleasure of hearing was "Leaving Yesterdays" by Wolverine (name is kind of dumb but great progressive metal band) off their album The Windows Purpose. Touching lyrical content. Great male and female harmonies and duets.
I hope someone out there has at least heard it.

All of Testament's ballads....The Ballad, The Legacy, Return to Serenity, and Trail of Tears. No Metal band does them better.

Opeth - To Bid You Farewell
Opeth - Benighted
Opeth - Face of Melinda
Opeth - Credence
Opeth - Harvest

All are great and mellow. Not necessarily all 'ballads' but bah.

Alone you Breath- Savatage (Wake of Magellan version)
Melancholy(Holy Martyr)- Iced Earth
If I could Fly - Helloween
Peices - Anthrax
When the Crowds are Gone - Savatage
In my Darkest Hour- Megadeth (nice call Sioux)
Return to Serenity - Testament
Trail of Tears - Testament

I can't remember it's name, but that one ballad off of Manowars' Louder than Hell, has to be the coolest(as in most overdone) metal ballad of all time.
It must be "Courage" then ;)

Some of my favorites :

Judas Priest - Beyond the Realms of Death
Rainbow - Catch the Rainbow
Deep Purple - When a Blind Man Cries
UDO - In the Darkness
Saxon - Broken Heroes (live)
Halford - Silent Scream
Virgin Steele - Child of Desolation
Queensryche - I Remember
Savatage - All That I Bleed
Lizzy Borden - One False Move
Grave Digger - Ballad of Mary
Black Sabbath - Solitude
Primal Fear - Tears of Rage
Hypocrisy - Paled Empty Sphere
Sortilège - Quand un Aveugle Rêve
Pretty Maids - Savage Heart (piano version)
Dio - Egypt
Nevermore - Insignificant
Crimson Glory - Painted Skies
Iron Savior - Forevermore
Candlemass - Solitude
Manowar - Master of the Wind (live)
Wasp - Sleeping in the Fire
Steel Prophet - Earth and Sky
Iced Earth - Watching Over You (live)
Testament - Return to Serenity
Fates Warning - We Only Say Goodbye
Savatage - Believe

If you know "Winter Dreams" (I'm pretty sure you do), you know that Udo can sing with a clean voice too ;)
So "In the Darkness" is a power ballad written by Accept members (just like the whole the first UDO album), but played by UDO's band.
And a wonderful one in my opinion, quite emotional...

Talking about UDO, try to get the "Live in Russia" double live album, there are some Accept numbers which don't appear on any Accept live release. There's also "In the Darkness" on it, but I prefer the studio version for this one.

Death Angel - Room with a veiw
Anthrax - Dallabnikufesin(N.F.B.)A Joke yes- Pretty song yes
Queensryche - I dont belive in love
Savatage - Sleep
Savatage - Miles Away
Motley Crue - Your All I need (FUCKED up song)
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home

i dont know if ive ever heard a metal "ballad", so i can only think of is Katatonia-One Year From Now

Ha ha ha well dude metal wouldn't be metal if it weren't for the "stuff" that makes it "metal." Still, no band can touch the soul like a metal band doing a ballad. If you haven't heard a metal ballad, then you will over time dude... trust me.
