I was afraid someone would challenge Spawny to the definition of "concept album" :) I remember some heated exchanges in the past regarding this very subject!

By the way, Spawny's wrong. Concept is a story, like Mindcrime, Seventh Son, Streets and Dead Winter Dead. Saying that the concept of, for example, "Chemical Wedding" is William Blake stuff is like saying any Kylie album is a concept album as well, all about love.

I was afraid of the same thing Spiffy

con·cept n.

1.A general idea derived or inferred from specific instances or occurrences.
2.Something formed in the mind; a thought or notion. See Synonyms at idea.
3.A scheme; a plan: “began searching for an agency to handle a new restaurant concept”

Please read number one.

I'm sure they were all lovey-dovey stuff - certainly nothing like Stevo Harris would write, ie. not lots of songs about war or mythical beasties romping about biting peoples heads off. It'd be pretty cool hearing Kylie sing a song about the Boer War or something though!

I know that "concept" refers to it all being about an idea, but generally in music a "concept album" refers to an album with a linear story and an album which just has the songs linked somehow usually gets called a "theme album" or something.

But I agree, "concept album" is a bit of a stupid term to refer only to albums with a story coz it indicates it being an idea.
