Hammers of Misfortune are great heavy/doom/prog fucking awesome shit...

Wolves in the Throne Room is a great black metal band.. very unique with hints of Weakling

I really like Drudkh - Blood In Our Wells, Summoning - Oath Bound and Månegarm - Urminnes Hävd - The Forest Sessions EP. Haven't heard Sodom - s/t but i think it's good. Also, i'm waiting for Negura Bunget - Om to be released... in october.

Agalloch, Drudkh, Summoning, Gama Bomb, Tankard, Countess, plus crap I can't recall and crap that's not out yet that will pretty much be a guarantee, like Graveland and (hopefully) Arghoslent.

I agree with most mentioned here (drudkh, summoning, agalloch, etc.)... some I still gotta check out (like Wolves in the Throne Room). Wormphlegm's Tomb of the Ancient King is also a solid 2006 album choice.


Right now, the most anticipated albums for me are definitely the new Blut Aus Nord and Arghoslent albums.

I haven't heard a whole lot this year but out of the ones I have, my favorites are:

Cannibal Corpse - Kill

Yes I know, not a very broadened list but I still need to catch up on a few releases. Hopefully when the new Bal-Sagoth arrives in the mail I can add it to the list.
