Best places for Metal Bands?

Does anyone have any advice on the best places in the U.S., besides LA , NY, to start Metal bands. I play drums and will be getting out of the military in a few months. I'm looking for a place that has lots of metal musicians to play with/start a band. I hope to get into something challenging, such as breaking new ground with odd times and polyrhythms etc.

Take a look to the midwest. Some good stuff from round here. Plus you've got Milwaukee Metalfest. Just don't go any farther north than Milwaukee. Everyone just wants to hear covers up here.
