Best Power Metal band

Damn the worst topic for me

I refuse to give only one, so here's a bunch that stand above IMOm for diverse reasons (in no particular order):

Helloween
Blind Guardian
Riot
Angel Dust
Angra
Warlord
Azeroth
Steel Prophet
Falconer
Wolf
Azrael
Malediction
Manigance
Hammerfall

Some one please tell me why you are saying that Iced Earth is power metal? They sound alot different than bands like Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian and Helloween. I would like to know some ones reasoning behind this. I seem them as just being Heavy Metal like Maiden, Priest and Dio

There's nothing progressive about Edguy, as they're very close to Helloween, a bit simpler though.
Angra's songs are much more complex.
I have heard a couple of Edguy songs and is very another power band from Germany to my taste. Angra (especially under Matos) was way beyond most power acts of the same time and even today. "Holy Land" is hands down among the finest albums of power metal ever made, combining the heritage of Helloween, Brazilian rythms and a prog approach.

Well, I think it solely depends on how you define Power Metal.

Iced Earth, Metal Church, Brainstorm, Vicious Rumors...
or...
Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Angra...

Make your choice :loco:
We had a thread about it a few weeks or months ago if I'm not mistaken.

And they will keep on coming as long as people keep disagreeing what's power and what's not. :err:

Someone please tell me why we would have to go to another genre definitons debate? I've seen hundreds of them, most ended in flamewars and all of them were pointless.

There is *no* visable border between genres. Call it whatever you want. Who fucking cares.

That´s the trouble with musical subgenres: As there aren´t any proper definitions laid down anywhere, it is very likely that you usually will get at least two different opinions on what kind of music (insert band name here) plays! And I guess even if there were proper definitions laid down somewhere, there would still be people disputing them. As regards Blind Guardian and Helloween, one could e.g. as well ask "Why are they considered power metal bands?" At least their first two or three albums used to be referred to as (melodic) speed metal. However you like to name it, I think the only question that really matters is whether you like the music or not! And I´m afraid there´s only one method to find out: Listen and decide for yourself!

To avoid any vain discussions about what is "power metal" and what is not, I´ll just name some albums I like and which IMO feature some powerful metal songs (not claiming that these bands play power metal):

Metal Church - "Metal Church", "The Dark"
Vicious Rumors - "Soldiers Of The Night"
Helstar - "Remnants Of War"
Nightwish - "Oceanborn"
Power - "Justice Of Fire"
Helloween - "Walls Of Jericho"
