Best Power Metal band

That´s the trouble with musical subgenres: As there aren´t any proper definitions laid down anywhere, it is very likely that you usually will get at least two different opinions on what kind of music (insert band name here) plays! And I guess even if there were proper definitions laid down somewhere, there would still be people disputing them. As regards Blind Guardian and Helloween, one could e.g. as well ask "Why are they considered power metal bands?" At least their first two or three albums used to be referred to as (melodic) speed metal. However you like to name it, I think the only question that really matters is whether you like the music or not! And I´m afraid there´s only one method to find out: Listen and decide for yourself!
Thats a much better answer then I gave Burkhard! :kickass: I agree 100%
Perhaps I am a bit morose today [pun intented] ;)

The whole tagging thing always call for a fight....

is like football or politics ;)

I know about corpsepaint in Black metal, but what is this alienpaint? And those names (Etherial Mangnanimus,Equilibrian Epicurius, Transcendental Protagonist, Cosmic Antagonist, Preternatural Transmogrifier, Perspicacious Protector) from which UFO this guys landed?

Jokes apart the vocals are clean and fierce which I like it, but the chorus (lalalala is...). I feel the the keyboards too prominent, which is not total my cup of tea. I know a lot of people that get drove off from extreme keyboarding in power metal. In general terms the music is good and enjoyable, most definitive I'll categorize them as power metal or power neo-classical metal :D

Pretty funny the fact that the band was basically Hammerfall. Then Cans, Emgren and Rafling left prior to any recording.

It's Highlander paint. I'm not sure about the names either but a lot of their stuff is kind of Highlander-based or about that stuff.

I reviewed their first album and poked fun at the image as well but didn't know at the time what they were going for.

Anyway, no need for me to hijack this thread any longer...

Lost Horizon have one of the best "new" singers around IMO, and I agree that they're quite different from all the typical Helloween-Strato clones.
I hope they will bring back the heavier riffs in the future though, the second album was great because of its melodies and atmospheres but I miss the aggression of their debut.

Y'know, I hate these threads. I really do. I'm not talking about "favorite_____metal bands or albums" type threads in general, i'm talking mainly about the POWER METAL type of those threads. Why is the definition of the genre so broad? For the longest time, power metal to me was just Hellowen, Blind Guardian, Edguy, etc. power bands with speed elements were Grave Digger, Gamma Ray, early Helloween, Running Wild, etc, and power bands with thrash elements were Metal Church, Iced Earth, Helstar, etc. All was well. Now all this "oh, you don't know power metal then! Pure power metal is METAL CHURCH!" "You moron! PURE power metal is Fates Warning!" "You idiot! Everyone who knows power metal knows Little Richard created the genre!" Geez! I wish i never broke into power metal disscussions. I was happy in my little personal definition of the genre.Sorry if i hear some thrash in Metal Church's sound! Sorry! I like power metal(whatever it is), but I tend to stay away from these confusing, frustrating, tiring threads about it.

I even saw nu/metalcore bands calling themselves "Power Metal" o_O :yuk: It shows that it's a bastard expression that can be applied to anything. Chill out and choose your own definition of the genre... if you really need one ;)

hhmmm yeah, didn't Pantera say they were power metal too? ;)
The 4th Pantera album after "Metal Magic", "Projects in the Jungle" and "I am the Night" was indeed called "Power Metal". Pretty good album btw. It was the first album with Phil Alselmo.
