Best single-coil guitar for modern rock/metal?

So I tried the Suhr. Didn't buy it. I can't really describe why I didn't like it. Although it's a high end guitar I felt like it was just another brand copying Fender. I know I know... it's most likely better than Fender but there's nothing I can do with that Suhr that I can't do with a regular Fender Tele. And... truth be told I've always liked Fender. Their instruments stay in tune and can take a beating.

So I realized I have all these humbucker guitars and I just want a versatile single coil guitar. So that's why I'm most likely getting a Fender Baja Tele. It's a custom shop design made in Mexico. Basically it has 6 different pickup positions. Extremely versatile and affordable!

Interesting , I had the horn for a Fender 2011 custom deluxe tele all of last year but it's a big chunk of money .... There are a couple of second hand Suhr teles floating about and the clips I saw of Guthrie playing his were impressive tone wise although he could make just about any guitar sound good .

these are suppposed to be good, but please try the squier classic vibe series. i tried my pals classic vibe duo-sonic and it blew away any MIM fender I've ever played.

Well ofcourse this was just my opinion. Some people might've loved the guitar. I just don't see where all that money was spent on that guitar. Sure there are little details that most guitars don't have but I'll stop respecting them once I get used to them. The tone was very very very clean. But I'd have to A/B a Fender to be sure.

About Guthrie... he could play with my genitals and make them sound good. That's how good he is.

I actually tried one of those when I bought my Tokai ATE (tele model). I guess the brand name "Squier" is what forced me not to buy it though. I remember hating some Custom Shop telecasters and really liking the sparkle of the Squier. The brand name was also one of the reasons I sold my Tokai. I know sound is all that should matter but I can't help feeling like I'm playing a "beginners guitar" when playing a Squier. And money isn't an issue here so I might aswell get a Baja. Hell... if there was an American Baja I'd buy that. :)
