I have been out of the metal production game for a while, working mostly on rock music. What are some really kickass sounding albums that have been on your headphones recently? Any/all subgenres

For glossy stuff, IMO:

Unearth - Darkness in the Light
The Acacia Strain - Wormwood
The last 3 Amon Amarth records

Natural sounding stuff:

Deafheaven - Sunbather
Every Time I Die - From Parts Unknown
Norma Jean - Wrongdoers

Some of my favourites since 2010, some of these don't seem to get a huge amount of recognition and some of them I have no idea who actually mixed them. This is purely my view on how good they sound regardless of if I like the music:

August Burns Red - Rescue And Restore
Between The Buried And Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Born Of Osiris - Tomorrow We Die Alive
Dream Theater - Dream Theater
Enslaved - RIITIIR
Machine Head - Unto The Locust (haven't heard Bloodstone yet)
Monuments - The Amanuensis
Northlane - Singularity
Periphery - Periphery II
Protest The Hero - Volition
Tesseract - Altered State
Testament - Dark Roots Of Earth

Architects - Lost Together, Lost Forever
Xerath - III
Dead by April - Incomparable
Confession - The Long Way Home
Behemoth - Evangelion
Underoath - Disambiguation

I'd throw Juggernaut in there too, but that'd be bias.

I usually reference check against my own mixes these days but there are some productions I really like!

Chimaira - Chimaira Tight as hell!
Killswitch Engage - Disarm the Decent Very dynamic and some killer vocal production!
Confession - The long way home Fredman/Henke at it's best. just a compact wall of sound with some crazy good lowend!

I always find myself liking Sneap productions, where some top engineers tend to slack off after they reached their peak Sneap always seems to be pusing it. Getting better every year! Colin Richardson is also a favorite of mine. Very in your face and always crazy good drums and guitars!

ill do it for you! definitely one of my favorite mix/masters over the past couple of years.

also

thy art is murder - hate
exodus - blood in blood out
killswitch engage - disarm the descent
testament - dark roots of the earth (see a pattern here :p)
machine head - bloodstones and diamonds

Triptykon - Melana Chasmata
At The Gates - At War With Reality
Carcass - Surgical Steel
Desultory - Counting Our Scars

I'd throw Juggernaut in there too, but that'd be bias.
Is this one of your productions? Would love a link to something!

Keep em coming, this is great stuff. I had no idea there was a new Carcass album.

I never seen Becoming The Archetype mentioned there in forum. Physics of Fire is one of my top listened albums even in this year

Seems like these weren't the most popular production wise here, but I enjoyed the mix on Unearth Watchers of Rule, and Sylosis Dormant Heart. A bit different maybe, but these are some fantastic mixes in my ears.

Kreator Phantom Antichrist as well.
